The Branding & Communications Section exists to determine, decide, develop and coordinate internal and external communications aligned with CPW’s mission to perpetuate the wildlife natural resources of the state, provide a quality state parks system, and to provide enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to serve as active stewards of Colorado’s natural resources.
The unit determines, decides, develops and delivers written, verbal and online materials to educate and inform Colorado residents, agency staff, Colorado Parks and Wildlife stakeholders, visitors, and recreationists about the state’s natural resources and outdoor recreation. The Branding & Communications Section is responsible for all aspects of external communications including media and public relations, and internal communications including customer call-centers, front desk services and online web presence. All communications are critical to the delivery of agency services, sales of agency products, brand recognition and overall agency reputation. It is the public face of the agency and advises agency leadership on communication strategy.
Description of Job
The CORA Records Assistant will support the CORA Records Manager in the processing of Colorado Open Records Act requests. This role focuses on timely and accurate responses to public records requests, while ensuring compliance with statutory guidelines. The position will require careful management of sensitive information, collaboration with internal teams, and communication with the public. This is a dynamic role that contributes to CPW’s transparency and public accountability while helping to minimize legal risks.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Manage CORA Requests Consistently and Accurately
This position will assist the CORA Records Manager in responding to CORA requests in a timely manner, determining solutions to practical problems using specified professional standards and criteria established by the CORA Records Manager. This role includes compiling, redacting, and distributing responsive documents and ensuring compliance with statutory timelines.
Record Keeping and Documentation
This duty involves maintaining detailed records of all CORA requests, tracking deadlines, fees, and ensuring that responsive records are accurately logged and documented. This documentation ensures compliance with legal standards and prepares CPW for future requests or audits.
Legal and Media Research
This position will research legal issues relevant to CORA requests, such as statutes, case law, and media reports, to inform decisions about records release or withholding. The assistant will support CPW in minimizing legal risks and ensuring compliance with CORA.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Minimum Qualifications
Five (5) years of professional experience in a general law enforcement role, or in a city, county or state entity that interfaces with public records, or an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
OR
A combination of a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or Public Administration and/or relevant experience in a general law enforcement role, or in a city, county or state entity that interfaces with public records, or an occupation related to the work assigned equal to five (5) years
Substitutions
- Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Current or former State experience relevant to this position
Current or former Colorado Parks & Wildlife work or volunteer experience
Experience working in a government role
High level of written and oral communications
Prior experience working with technology in a communications, marketing or web management role
Prior experience managing Colorado Open Records Act requests
Prior experience redacting video footage under CORA. The role involves reviewing, redacting, and preparing footage for release, ensuring that sensitive information is appropriately edited or withheld in accordance with legal standards. Redacting video for CORA requests requires an understanding of legal standards specific to privacy, public discourse, and sensitive information. Candidates need familiarity with CORA regulations, as mistakes in redaction can have legal ramifications for the agency.
