U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Maintenance Supervisor in Ahsahka, Idaho

Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive Service Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at Dworshak Dam and Reservoir, Ahsahka, ID, a multi-purpose hydropower project, with missions that include operation and maintenance of the facility for flood control, hydroelectric power generation, recreation and natural resources management. Responsibilities Supervise, direct, schedule, and/or perform all maintenance and repair of project facilities and equipment. Supervise maintenance and repair activities for recreation areas. Plan the use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, materials, and tools. Assign work to individuals and provide technical direction and/or help in accomplishing difficult work processes. Inspect completed work for quality and work order requirements. Develop performance requirements and individual development plans, counsel employees on performance, and formally appraises work performance. Ensure safe work practices and enforce environmental safety regulations. Prepare and execute a preventative maintenance program of project facilities, vehicles and heavy equipment. Inspect facilities to ensure they operate properly and are in good repair. Gather data to determine cost effective options to resolve facility maintenance deficiencies. Assign and schedule work to be accomplished by hired labor and/or small construction contract. Prepare requisitions, cost estimates, and justifications to procure equipment and supplies. Coordinate contracted maintenance and repair work. Perform non-supervisory trades and labor work. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Supervisor without more than normal supervision. -ability to lead a work team with minimal supervision. I can plan and independently perform tasks in the areas of maintenance, plumbing, carpentry, heavy equipment operation and operating and maintaining pumping plants and irrigation systems. I am able to work as part of a crew and to assume responsibility for leading in the accomplishment of tasks. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Administrative functions are primarily performed in an office setting. Exerts heavy physical effort in doing such tasks as frequently lifting and moving objects weighing under 45 pounds unassisted, obtains assistance or uses appropriate equipment or safety devices when lifting and moving heavy objects greater than 45 pounds. Physical dexterity is needed to handle tools and work around machinery or equipment. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside in all weather conditions. Exposed to loud noise levels, vibration and jolting while operating engineering equipment motor vehicles, and tools and equipment of the various trades led/performed. May be exposed to poisonous insects, reptiles and plants. Subject to injury from falls, overturning of tractor and equipment, vehicular accidents, loading and unloading cargo, or from hand and power tools used. Subject to electrical shock, cuts, bruises, insect bites and stings, scrapes, burns, infections, and broken bones. Life jacket worn at all times while operating or a passenger about a vessel. May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty. Education Additional Information This position is eligible for situational telework only. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
