The Opportunity
This position works out of our Alameda, CA location in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division, where we are focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. We’re revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.
Our location in Alameda, CA currently has an opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer and this is a full time in-office role. This individual will work independently in a lead role, or as part of a team to design, develop, and troubleshoot critical electrical designs. They will identify, recommend, implement significant and/or complex new electrical design improvements or technologies that meet regulatory requirements. They may lead multiple electrical engineering activities and develop cross-functional working relationships as well as provide effective communication to Senior Management.
What you’ll work on
Research, specify, design, verify, and validate battery-powered embedded systems per applicable regulatory standards for medical devices.
Working experience in communication interfaces, patient monitors, EMC/EMI design and testing for regulatory standards.
Proficient in PCB layout using Altium design tools. Anticipate and resolve DFM and DFT issues.
Develop product specifications, design FMEAs, and V&V test protocols.
Ensure that electrical designs meet applicable industry and medical device standards
Communicate effectively to and participate in cross-functional development teams.
Create and review electrical design specifications and product requirements.
Write and submit Engineering Change Orders in Agile (a product life cycle management tool.)
Act as an independent reviewer on programs not directly involved.
Comply with all applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and perform other duties as assigned by the Management Team
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
Minimum of 7 + years of relevant experience
Mastery of fundamental Electrical Engineering principles.
Experience in performing complex engineering calculations and relating results to design verification tests including statistical analysis and tolerance analysis
Working knowledge in writing process, product requirements, and design specifications.
Understanding of processes used in the design and manufacturing of medical devices, bed-side monitors, battery-powered handheld, wearable, and body-worn devices.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
Preferred Skills/Technologies: PCB layout using Altium design tool, EMC design for compliance, DFM, DFT, Agile PLM tool
Design requirement management tools such as DOORS and SysML a plus
Knowledge of regulations and industry standards for medical device development including but not limited to ISO 13485, ISO 14971, and FDA Guidance for medical device development.

The base pay for this position is $128,000.00 – $256,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
