The Coordinator, Credit for Prior Learning, is responsible for coordinating UAlbany's range of Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) programs, including portfolio assessment, military credit, and proficiency credit.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Advise students on Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) regulations and processes, including the appropriateness of pursuing CPL based on individual circumstances and experiences. This responsibility requires frequent consultation with academic advisors and discipline-specific faculty to ensure compliance with departmental and accreditation standards.

  • Manage the portfolio review process and provide guidance and support to faculty on the portfolio development process, including investigating historical assessments.

  • Coordinate implementation and launch of CAEL Credit Predictor Pro software, consult in ongoing software management, and provide end-user support.

  • Administer consistent and equitable CPL program, ensuring accessibility through clearly communicated policies and processes, including forms, website, and other communications.

  • Conduct training sessions with key University stakeholders, such as faculty, advisors, and admissions staff, to support their roles in the CPL process.

  • Develop and implement a data collection plan to track the number of students pursuing CPL, including information on credits awarded, successful applications, methods used to award credit, etc.

  • Develop and administer survey of students who have pursued credit for prior learning and evaluate survey results

  • Utilize PeopleSoft to post CPL credit to student records. Collaborate with Undergraduate Admissions and Office of the Registrar to ensure prior learning credit is reflected on student records and tracked per university policy.

  • Serve as point of contact and resource to answer all questions from students, faculty, and staff related to CPL.

  • Remain current on accreditation requirements and CPL best practices to evaluate, assess, and recommend strategies to improve processes.

  • Ensure compliance with FERPA and associated student confidentiality policies.

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization and two or more years of relevant experience.

  • Experience supporting students in a higher education setting.

  • Project management experience.

  • Experience working with student information systems or digital learning platforms, such as PeopleSoft/Banner, Brightspace/Blackboard, Moodle, etc.

  • Willingness and ability to take initiative as appropriate.

  • Ability to work well with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Highly organized, ability to prioritize effectively and complete tasks in a timely manner.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree and two or more years of relevant experience.

  • Experience working in academic advising, a registrar's office, or with students pursuing credit for prior learning.

  • Experience leading workshops and trainings for university faculty and staff.

  • Demonstrated understanding of competency-based education and/or CPL best practices.

    Additional Information:

Professional Rank and Salary Grade: Senior Staff Assistant, SL-3, $55,000-$60,000
