Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management and a member of the Facilities Management leadership team at the University at Albany, the Director of Data Analysis and Space Management (DASM) serves a critical role and is responsible for directing the university's strategic space planning initiatives, including space needs analyses and utilization studies, as well as space assignment, modification, and evaluation of academic and administrative facilities usage. Working within a multicultural environment, this position will collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, contributing to the University's global reach and positive social impact.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • 25% of time: Provide leadership, oversight and direction to Data Analysis Space Manager(s), Geographical Information Systems Manager(s), and a Staff Assistant to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the University's goals and strategies. Lead employees for maximum performance and dedication. Complete performance management feedback and goals timely and per requirements.

  • 15% of time: Direct space allocation for the University at Albany campuses and properties and serves as representative of Facilities Management on Facilities Strategic Planning Committee.

  • 10% of time: Design and conduct space needs analyses, planning, and utilization studies to improve space utilization efficiency and allocations.

  • 10% of time: Develop and implement a strategic space plan to address the major emerging and ongoing initiatives of the University.

  • 10% of time: Work with a broad range of campus constituents to identify program needs and evaluate competing space priorities.

  • 10% of time: Gather data and conduct space utilization and cost analyses for shared public space, classroom utilization, and central campus space, to inform the space planning process.

  • 5% of time: Analyze space/population projections to ensure optimal uses and locations for existing and proposed space needs.

  • 5% of time: Negotiate space reassignments with constituents.

  • 5% of time: Identify, develop and monitor policies and procedures for space allocation and planning.

  • 5% of time: Other reasonable duties as assigned

Functional and Supervisory Relationships:

  • Reports to Associate Vice President of Facilities Management

  • Supervises the following positions: Data Analysis Space Manager(s), Geographical Information Systems Manager(s), and a Staff Assistant.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to lead and manage a team, providing direction, oversight, and performance feedback.

  • Knowledge of development and implementing strategic plans, particularly related to space management and utilization.

  • Superior with conducting space needs analysis, utilization studies, and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with various departments and stakeholders.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in space management.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Business Administration, Facilities Management, or related field.

  • 5 years relevant experience or equivalent combination in data analysis, space planning, and management.

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and software (e.g. Tableau, AutoCAD, GIS).

  • Experience in negotiating space allocations and working with a broad range of stakeholders.

  • Proven experience in supervising and leading teams of at least 3 professionals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a higher education environment.

  • Master's Degree or higher.

Professional Rank and Salary Grade: Senior Staff Associate, SL-5, $115,000-$125,000
