In this position...
The Regulatory Attorney will help ensure compliance with federal and state air quality and fuel economy requirements concerning vehicles, engines, and other mobile sources. They will also ensure compliance with internal Ford guidelines, and the continuous improvement of those guidelines. The Regulatory Attorney will engage in fact finding, writing, and legal judgment on technical subject matter. They will attend a regular cadence of internal company meetings to support the company’s informed decision-making and prompt compliance efforts.
What you'll do...
• Client Counseling –The Regulatory Attorney works closely with the Environmental Problem Review Committee, Office of General Counsel leadership, Ford Customer Service Division, Product Development teams, outside counsel and others to provide counseling, written work product, and direct support on the following and other issues as they related to vehicle environmental regulatory issues:
new vehicle certification and homologation
in-use vehicle testing
emissions compliance recalls and other field service actions
government reporting
dealer and customer communications
emissions-related manufacturer warranties
government inquiries, investigation, and enforcement
applicability determinations
vehicle classification
compliance best practices
emissions-related aftermarket parts
• Co-counseling other teams on marketing claims, litigation, class action, and other matters where those matters intersect with vehicle environmental regulatory issues.
• Fact finding and documentation to ensure compliance and responses to inquiries.
• Drafting materials, ranging from original legal memoranda to editing government reports, dealer and customer communications, internal company presentations, and more.
• Subject Matter Expertise – The Regulatory Attorney will ensure close familiarity with applicable statutes, regulations, and other governing law. They will pro-actively develop and maintain a network of colleagues within the Company, and navigate within the company with independence and in service of the Company’s commitment to compliance.
You'll have...
Law degree (J.D.) from an ABA-approved Law School
Bachelor degree
At least 8 years of legal experience with a focus on regulatory compliance
License to practice law in a U.S. state or District of Columbia

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive, constructive, and team-oriented approach
Ability to translate complex subject matter into plain-spoken and legally accurate communications.
High level of analytical, project management, and organizational skills
Knowledge of applicable laws including Title II of the Clean Air Act and California Health and Safety Code
Time and task management skills, including ability to multi-task
Proficient in MS Office products, in Adobe Acrobat, and in learning new information technology applications
