Summary This position is located in the Maintenance and Repair (M&R) Section of the Facilities Management Service at the James E. Van Zandt Medical Center. The incumbent is responsible for providing non-clinical and administrative support to staff, patients, and administrators for all matters of concern relating to the facility wide lifecycle management of networked (connected to current IT network connections) non-medical equipment and associated systems. Responsibilities Maintains and repairs complex communication equipment. Troubleshoots complex electronic and electromechanical circuity components and other related equipment and systems. Uses computer diagnostic equipment to analyze and restore faulty voice and non-voice circuits. Troubleshoots, and maintains complete systems of computerized equipment/controls, databases, and servers. These non-medical information systems include but are not limited to Physical Access Control Systems (PACS), Ccure, TempTrak, Trane Tracer, etc. Repairs complex telecommunication system components, such as intercom, and public address systems, interface/ancillary equipment, and local wire and cable in support of voice and nonionic networks for computers, data, and alarm circuits. Receives work assignments from Maintenance and Repair Supervisor. Services functionally independent equipment or works on a team of technicians servicing more complex systems. Fabricates, overhauls, modifies, installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains hospital support equipment. Installs fiber option, cat6 and coaxial cabling and terminates as required for all related systems including IT equipment, fire protection equipment, alarm systems nd CCTV systems as needed. Installs complex equipment such as wireless transmission and receiving equipment. Programs electronic alarm systems with desired features to meet customer requirements. Interconnects system components by applying a thorough knowledge of different electronic and solid-state voice and data systems, including their capabilities, functions of their major circuits and the associated cables and wiring used. Reviews work orders and layout sheets to select equipment, components and layouts required. Determines components causing malfunctions or invalid readings. Interprets and applies technical information from manufacturers' specifications, schematics, block diagrams and technical orders. Determines operation of the circuits. Locates the points from which to take readings. Analyzes the schematic layout. Completes preliminary visual inspections and operational tests. Uses circuit theory to understand the operation of individual circuits and the interaction with other circuits creating the malfunction. Makes required repairs by replacing damaged, missing, burnt or faulty items such as printed circuit cards, and transistors, diodes, resistors, etc., using the latest techniques in micro-soldering. Performs other related duties as assigned. Position is at full performance level. Physical Requirements: Frequently lifts and carries, unassisted, items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components. Working Conditions: Often performs work in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Occasionally works outside on rooftops on in restricted places such as crawlways, under conditions of heat, cold, noise, vibration, moving mechanical equipment and inclement weather. Exposed to the possibility of electric shock, burns from electrical or RF energy or hot solder; and cuts and bruises. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
