• Experience that demonstrates knowledge of student information/academic requirement (degree audit) systems

• Professional-level experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of University administrative processes and procedures and strong decision-making in relation to that understanding

• Teaching or training/professional development experience

• Experience with outreach, recruitment, orientation, and retention programs

Job Description:

The Undergraduate Programs Office within the Ivy College of Business at Iowa State University is accepting applications for an Academic Advisor III who will work closely with individual students and small groups to guide their completion of degree requirements. Duties include assisting with recruitment and retention programs for first year and transfer students; leading orientation class(es); providing administrative support to the Undergraduate Student Services Office as well as to the students and faculty in the Ivy College of Business; and assisting in the administration of academic policies and curricular standards. This position is also responsible for the coordination and implementation of professional development activities and processes for the advisors and student services support staff within the office.

The successful candidate in this senior-level position will have the ability to successfully communicate verbally, visually, and in writing; possess excellent computer skills; and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills. The candidate will also possess knowledge of student and professional development, the ability to solve problems and resolve conflicts, and the ability to work well with a diverse group of individuals. All staff members are expected to interact collegially and maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethics.

Level Guidelines• Senior-level position possessing high-level professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISU’s mission and department or work unit goals​• Applies senior-level professional knowledge and expertise to work requiring greater latitude​• Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action​• Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems. May provide recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices​• Responds to complicated inquiries, provides training, and provides direction to lower-level staff• May provide supervision for one to two other staff (i.e., leads a small work team)​• May lead projects for which well-defined practices and procedures may not exist ​• Provides guidance to students
