Familiarity with employer expectations, hiring practices, and Applicant Tracking Systems, as well as knowledge of employment recruitment laws, employment benefits, and job search legalities.

Experience with resume preparation, interviewing techniques, negotiations, career management, and job search strategies.

Experience teaching or conducting large group workshops, presentations, seminars, or meetings.

Job Description:

The Ivy College of Business Graduate Career Services Office at Iowa State University is seeking a Student Services Specialist III to join our team on the main campus in Ames, Iowa. This role will focus on enhancing the career readiness of our MBA and specialized graduate business students through innovative programming and student engagement.

The successful candidate will be a proactive leader with strong written and verbal communication skills. They should be able to exercise sound judgment, take initiative, and collaborate effectively with diverse groups.

The primary responsibilities will include:

  • Advising current students and alumni from various graduate business majors on their resume, cover letter, internship/job search strategies, negotiations, interviewing best practices, and other related career topics.

  • Developing and implementing creative strategies and programs to help MBA and specialized graduate students enhance their networking skills and effectively market their unique competencies in a competitive job market.

  • Designing and delivering career courses or workshops that encourage students to actively engage in their career development.

  • Collaborating with faculty, employers, and alumni to create career development opportunities and resources tailored to the needs of graduate business students.

  • Supervising 1-2 graduate student assistants responsible for supporting program initiatives.

  • Managing online platforms for internships, rotational programs, and job search strategies to expand opportunities for students.

  • Designing and implementing career-related programming, including fairs, workshops, networking events, onboarding, and special topic seminars that engage both students and employers.

  • Provide and assist students with the CPT/OPT process in collaboration with the International Students and Scholars office.

  • Collecting, analyzing, and reporting data on internships and employment outcomes, and assisting in communicating this information to relevant stakeholders.
