Salary Range:$59,752.00-$89,628.00

Position Summary Performs supervisory and technical activities for Grimes County. Work involves directing,supervising, and coordinating the work of Road and Bridge Department personnel to included Area Superintendents and their teams. Establishes and implements standards and discipline. Oversees the

day-to-day field operations of the road and bridge department, scheduling, and oversite of daily

workload, and ensuring that work is completed in a timely manner. Performs advanced technical dutiesrelated to road maintenance and improvement and drainage infrastructure, maintenance, and improvement across the County.

Work is performed under general direction from the County Engineer with extensive latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Position relies on experience and subject-matter expertise to apply advanced concepts, techniques, and knowledge of processes.

Directs, provides guidance to, and reviews the work of individual contributors and supervisoryemployees in order to accomplish operational plans and results. Plans and oversees business area workflow and time utilization of employees; assigns and communicates daily activities and deadlines to employees. Assesses, plans, and implements best practice standards and assures compliance with all policiesand regulations; compiles and submits data, analyses, and reports. Submits weekly work reports. Coordinates closely with the Count Engineer on road and drainage improvements. Receives, creates, assigns, and follows up on work tickets in a reasonably timely manner Maintains quality communication and interaction with all employees, representatives fromexternal organizations, and the public to maintain good will toward the county and to project a positive image. Follows organizational, county, OSHA, and public safety guidelines and protocols and performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies andprocedures Responds to inquiries, questions, and comments from the general public, from coworkers/managers/employees, and from elected officials per established standards and protocols Attends and participates in professional group meetings and workshops; stays abreast of new trends and best practices May be required to work a schedule outside of standard business hours, including on nights, weekends, and holidays based on scheduling, job assignment, or declared emergencies and critical weather events May be required to attend evening and/or weekend meetings and events based on organizational responsibilities and/or requirements May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures and meets with management employees to identify and resolve problems Assesses and monitors workload; identifies opportunities for improvement and implements changes Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates personnel; provides or coordinates employees training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; makes recommendations regarding discipline

** MINIMUM Q ALIFICATIONS:

Typically requires BS / BA in related discipline; supplemented by at least four (4) years of directly related experience, including at least 1 year of supervisory experience; Depending on job function, the minimum education required may be a high school diploma or GED supplemented by a technical certification OR an associate degree; with additional years of directly related experience required; Professional certification may be required in some areas; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience. High school diploma or GED is required. Oral and written fluency in English is required. To be eligible for employment with Grimes County, applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.

**Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver License and the ability to drive a county owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) or higher Ability to obtain certification from Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) ** PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

15+ years of experience in road, bridge, and/or drainage infrastructure construction and maintenance with 10+ years in a management role Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL)

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of construction operations and techniques for roads, drainage, and bridges typical in Grimes County, including methods, materials, and equipment maintenance. Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practice Knowledge of County Policies and Procedures along with applicable laws, regulations, and codes related to work within the department Skill in adapting to a changing work environment, competing demands and ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and applicable department and organization specific software and ability to learn and become proficient in the use of other specialized software as may be required Skill in using mathematics required for the work Ability to obtain certification from Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) Ability to operate a variety of construction equipment in a safe and effective manner Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and tactfully address public inquires and complaints Ability to correctly interpret and efficiently implement all applicable policies and procedures Ability to operate computer and typical office equipment Ability to follow oral and written instructions Ability to resolve conflict as needed.
