Job Summary

The Director of Human Resources and Finance provides strategic leadership in these important administrative areas. As the director, you will be responsible for planning and managing the library's $70 million budget portfolio while offering consultation on overall resource management. You will prioritize developing relationships, promoting collaboration, and nurturing an inclusive organizational culture. You will also positively impact the organization through the guidance of the HR and Finance teams and through a commitment to collaboration, transparency, and empowerment. You will report to the Associate Dean of Libraries.

What You'll Do

  • Influence overall strategic direction of the Library, as part of the Deans' Office leadership team.

  • Partner with the HR and Finance Managers to set the direction and manage the responsibilities of both teams.

  • Develop and implement policies to improve overall organizational effectiveness.

  • Plan and implement budget and finance tasks to ensure long-term financial capacity while responding to opportunities and contingencies as they arise.

  • Guide the accounting and financial functions for all fund areas, including general, designated, gift, and other funds, following Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, federal and state regulatory requirements, and University policies.

  • Oversee annual budget planning, funding allocations, and regular monitoring and reporting of results.

  • Develop and implement the University Library's personnel strategy according to the Library's Mission and Strategic Directions.

  • Lead the Workforce Strategy Team, to develop plans around the ongoing stewardship of Library personnel policies.

  • Partner with the Organizational Development Director and Diversity and Inclusion Specialist as they facilitate a library organizational development program and diversity plan.

  • Establish team and individual goals, prioritize work, ensure implementation of practices, support growth and empowerment, and encourage collaboration.

Skills You Have

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field, and eight years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • Record of managing personnel and financial operations to support organizational priorities.

  • Experience managing organizational change.

  • Experience in strategic planning and translating strategic planning into operational action.

  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and federal and state financial regulations.

  • Knowledge of employment law, including Title VII, ADA, FMLA, and state labor regulations.

  • Experience demonstrating judgment, confidentiality, and the highest integrity and ethics.

  • Experience creating interdependent partnerships across organizational structures.

  • Understanding of diverse perspectives and acknowledging the significance of differences and complexities in background, cultures, values and viewpoints as the foundation for an inclusive environment.

  • Expertise in identifying organizational gaps, defining solutions, setting out a sequence of actions, managing implementation, and conducting assessments of tangible results.

  • Experience helping leaders build connections between organizational culture, strategic programs, and talent to further the mission and values of the organizations.

Desired Qualifications*

  • MBA or graduate-level degree in Finance, Accounting, or Human Resources.

  • Experience collaborating on space planning, facilities or building management to best allocate resources to the use of library spaces.

  • Experience working in a decentralized and matrixed work environment.

  • Experience presenting personnel policy and complex financial information to a variety of audiences.

  • Experience applying data, preparing financial reports, statements, and projections, and producing and analyzing financial data.

  • Experience working in higher education administration and leadership.
