Job Summary
TheDivision of Public Safety and Security (http://dpss.umich.edu/) (DPSS) leads all public safety functions within the university, including police, security, and emergency management, and offers an integrated approach to safety and security, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. DPSS combines Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint operations to provide students, visitors, faculty, and staff with a safe and secure environment. Through our partnerships across the university and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, we use a blended service model to meet the needs of our community and exceed expectations. Our Michigan Medicine Security Services department is seeking to fill several Security Officer positions. As a Michigan Medicine Security Officer, you will report to a Security Sergeant.

Responsibilities*
Ensure public safety, protect our assets and act as the primary liaison with state and local police, fire and security agencies; act calmly in emergency situations and use emergency equipment
Working with medical staff, de-escalate potentially violent and non-violent situations; help maneuver persons who may be combative, intoxicated or unconscious; restrain individuals as needed
Patrol the medical center and off site health system buildings and monitor fire, infant protection, security, and access control alarm systems
Detect safety hazards and criminal elements
Use your customer service skills and inclusive mindset to respectfully communicate and work with all community members
Maintain confidentiality in all matters
Prepare incident and security reports
Ascend and descend multiple flights of stairs as part of the routine patrol
Provide services such as: escorts, wayfinding, unlocks, motorists assists, well-being checks, fund transports, property control, and traffic and crowd control
Move equipment such as barricades and fire extinguishers
Required Qualifications*
High school or GED equivalent and one (1) year of experience in a security, fire, military, customer service or emergency management field
Experience with the enforcement of fire, safety and security practices
Skill set in handling emergency situations and using associated equipment
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and basic keyboarding
A valid driver's license and a driving record with less than 6 points
You must pass a comprehensive public safety background investigation, drug screening, psychological evaluation, and physical examination
Modes of Work
These positions will work onsite patrolling the medical center and offsite health system buildings.
Additional Information
All members of the DPSS team are considered Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) under The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. As such, you are required to report anyClery reportable offenses (https://www.clerycenter.org/) that come to your attention. DPSS employees must also complete the Clery Compliance training within 14 days of employment and annually thereafter.
Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Police Officers Association of Michigan union which contains and settles all matters concerning wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
