JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Description: Diesel Technician Position Title: Diesel Technician Department: Maintenance/Repair Type: DIRECT HIRE Location: Appleton, Wi Employment Type: Full-Time Salary Range: Based on Experience Job Overview: The Diesel Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and related equipment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. This role requires technical expertise in diesel engines, mechanical systems, and various vehicle components. The ideal candidate will have experience working on trucks, heavy equipment, or other diesel-powered machinery and be committed to safety, precision, and high-quality service. Key Responsibilities: Diagnostics and Repair: Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in diesel-powered vehicles and equipment using diagnostic tools and software. Perform engine overhauls, transmission repairs, and brake system repairs on diesel trucks, buses, and other heavy machinery. Troubleshoot issues related to fuel injection systems, turbochargers, cooling systems, and emissions control. Repair or replace defective parts such as alternators, fuel injectors, pistons, and cylinder heads. Routine Maintenance: Perform routine preventative maintenance on diesel engines and components, including oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, and battery checks. Inspect equipment and vehicles for potential problems, addressing issues before they lead to major breakdowns. Test and calibrate engines and systems after repair or maintenance to ensure proper functionality and efficiency. Safety and Compliance: Ensure all repairs and maintenance comply with safety standards, manufacturer specifications, and local, state, and federal regulations. Follow OSHA safety guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper handling of hazardous materials. Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols in the shop or on-site. Customer Service: Communicate effectively with customers or supervisors to explain repair needs, provide accurate cost estimates, and discuss maintenance recommendations. Ensure timely and high-quality repairs to minimize vehicle or equipment downtime for the customer. Keep detailed records of services performed, parts used, and time spent on each job for accurate billing and customer communication. Team Collaboration: Work closely with other technicians and shop personnel to ensure efficient workflow and quick turnaround times for repairs. Assist in mentoring and training junior technicians and apprentices as needed. Participate in ongoing technical training and certification programs to stay up-to-date with advancements in diesel technology. Qualifications and Skills: Experience: o Experience as a diesel mechanic or technician working on diesel engines and related systems. o Experience with heavy-duty trucks, buses, agricultural, or construction equipment is a plus. Technical Skills: o Strong knowledge of diesel engines, fuel systems, and mechanical components. o Proficiency with diagnostic software and tools such as multimeters, engine analyzers, and pressure gauges. o Familiarity with hydraulic, electrical, and air brake systems commonly found in diesel vehicles. Problem-Solving: o Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills to quickly identify and resolve engine or mechanical issues. o Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time and resources to complete tasks. Communication: o Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain repairs and maintenance needs clearly to customers and team members. o Ability to maintain accurate service records and documentation.
