NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS COUNCIL Transportation Planner I - Congestion Management and System Operations in Arlington, Texas

The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking Transportation Planners in Congestion Management and System Operations. These positions will support efforts to enhance mobility, reduce congestion, and improve transportation operations and safety through the strategic development and implementation of transportation plans and technology. This posting is for the Transportation Planner I position. Applicants wishing to be considered for this position should apply online at. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Congestion Management Process:

  • Assisting with updates to NCTCOGsCongestion Management Processfor the Dallas-Fort Worth Region
  • Assisting with the coordination and oversight of consultant work activities related to the development of regional integration software and the deployment of the regional communication network, which allows transportation data and video sharing between partners and the public
  • Assisting partners with the implementation of congestion management and system operation strategies during special events, including the 2026 World Cup

Transportation System Management and Operations:

  • Assisting with the oversight of consultant activities for a region-wide program focused on traffic signal and intersection enhancements along inter-city corridors
  • Assisting with oversight of consultant activities to maintain a regional traffic signal performance platform and traffic signal inventory
  • Assisting partners to identify and prioritize projects for the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Strategic Deployment Plan

Other Duties:

  • Collaborating with local governments in the development and implementation of transportation plans, policies, and programs aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving system reliability
  • Working with supervisor to develop strategies for transportation plans, assess program and project effectiveness through analyses, and monitor the implementation of funded projects
  • Assisting in the management of projects, including planning, budgeting, and coordinating with internal and external partners
  • Drafting for supervisor review, reports, grant applications, and technical documents to communicate transportation concepts and recommendations
  • Drafting presentations for supervisor review, with the opportunity to deliver oral presentations to staff and committee members
  • Assisting with and attending meetings, workshops, and public engagement events to gather input and promote transparency in the transportation planning process

Required Skills

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Good data collection, mathematical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Good interpersonal and customer-service skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing quality of work
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in analytical, quantitative methods
  • One year or less of job-related experience

Starting Salary Range

Minimum of $45,736.00 - $54,883.20 annually
