U.S. Air Force - Agency Wide SENIOR GENERAL ENGINEER - DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY in Arlington, Virginia
Summary The Air Force offers qualified applicants opportunities to be hired for certain occupations covered by Direct Hire Authorities (DHA). Responsibilities The incumbent will serve as a Senior Plans and Programs Engineer responsible for organizational strategic planning, programming, and budgeting activities supporting the Resource Planning and Integration (AFOSR) mission. Provides corporate interface and reviews Higher Headquarters strategic documents, organization policies, directives, and procedures to assess impact to AFOSR investment priorities. Develops AFOSR Strategic Plan and Annual Planning Guidance and advises leadership on investment strategy and resource allocation. Assists the Director to ensure national and Department of Defense space science and engineering priorities are integrated into the overall AFOSR investment plan. Conducts strategic analysis and budgeting forecasting, evaluates major trends, and recommends plans and fiscal policy. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions and Individual Occupational Requirements for All Professional Engineering Positions 0800. To qualify for this position, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent at the next lower level, DR-2 (GS-12/13), or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience may be experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. AND A degree in Engineering: To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.
