Amazon Senior Tax Manager, State & Local Income Tax Planning in Arlington, Virginia
Description
Amazon is seeking a Senior Manager to join and lead its State Income Tax Planning team. The Tax Department is a fast-paced, team-focused, dynamic environment where attention to detail and strong communication and analytical skills are essential.
This position is responsible for overseeing Amazon’s State Income Tax Planning function and advises various stakeholders within the company on the state income tax implications of both internal and external developments. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in State Income Tax planning and be expected to serve as a trusted resource to both the compliance team and the audit team. As a result, effective communication and coordination skills are a must.
Job Description
The primary duties of this position will include the following:
Monitoring legislative, judicial and administrative developments in the state income tax arena to determine their potential implications to the company
Analyzing the state income/franchise tax implications of proposed transactions, new business initiatives and M&A activity
Interacting with state taxing authorities on both a formal and informal basis to obtain guidance on state tax positions
Partnering with Provision, Audit, and Compliance teams regarding filing positions
Preparing and/or reviewing memos that support the company’s FIN48 reserves relating to state income tax issues
Preparing and/or reviewing memos and workpapers that support the company’s state income tax filings
Analyzing state income tax assessments to determine accuracy and potential items for protest and/or appeal
Gathering, organizing, and documenting information provided to state taxing authorities for audits, litigation and appeals
Reviewing Excel models that detail the state income tax impact of proposed legislative changes and potential changes to the legal entity organizational structure
Basic Qualifications
10+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience
Experience in taxation in a corporate environment, public accounting firm or major law firm
Experience managing other employees and leading international tax team through hiring and development
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working effectively across cross-functional teams and partner well with people at all levels within an organization, including coaching of junior staff
Experience with accounting concepts and tax regulations, laws and standards
Experience with tax modeling in Excel-based models or other similar programs
