Entry Level Engineer or Scientist - Environmental Affairs, Waste & Remediation

Please note, this is a hybrid position and you will be required to be in the office a minimum of three days per week @ 241 Ralph McGill Blvd, Atlanta, GA.

You must be able to maintain a flexible schedule, including up to 25% travel. (Some possibly overnight.)

JOB SUMMARY

Georgia Power is hiring an entry-level engineer or scientist for our Environmental Affairs Team based in Atlanta, Georgia. This role focuses on learning and applying solid waste permitting and compliance strategies across our operations. We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, curious, and eager to learn and grow in solid waste permitting and coal combustion residuals (CCR) rule compliance. You will work closely with our internal technical and regulatory teams as well as with third-party consultants, regulators, vendors, and industry experts.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Experience with or ability to learn Georgia Solid Waste and CCR rules and requirements.

  • Maintain internal CCR guidance materials.

  • Complete reporting obligations to comply with the CCR rule.

  • Assist in obtaining CCR Solid Waste Permits, licenses, and certifications.

  • Support CCR rule and CCR permit compliance at our facilities through site visits, file reviews, and review and use of Georgia Power’s Environmental Management System.

  • Collaborate with our team to find and apply cost-effective environmental solutions.

JOB & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • 1-5 years working in solid waste, environmental consulting, or another environmental compliance field.

  • Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations.

  • Strong writing and speaking skills.

  • Ability to work with limited supervision and maintain a flexible schedule, including up to 25% travel. This position is primarily located at the Georgia Power Corporate Headquarters in Atlanta, GA.

  • Skilled in problem-solving and project management.

  • A degree in engineering or science (geology, biology, chemistry, environmental science, etc.) is preferred.

  • Experience in Georgia with CCR Solid Waste Permitting or CCR Rule compliance is a plus.
