Job Description Summary

HDPE ITR Lean Leader

The Lean Leader is a key leadership role in the Heavy Duty Plant Engineering (HDPE) ITR organization. HDPE ITR organizations will drive single point accountability for what we sell, develop and deliver on the HDNU business P&L. It will continue to drive product innovation with the Plant Systems and Steam Cycle Engineering (PSSC), bid and execute to standards and deliver world class performance and lead decarbonization solutions with the inclusion of the Performance COE and Decarbonization teams.

The Lean Leader is responsible for developing and leading a culture of applying lean principals and techniques to Engineering processes across the HDNU portfolio. Specifically, the Lean Leader will work closely as a partner with the Engineering ITR, Upgrades/CSE and Aero Lean Leader and all internal Engineering COE teams to advocate for lean solutions and processes, drive Hoshin Kanri and the lean strategic playbook and facilitate the operational mechanisms to ensure success (e.g. KPIs/bowler charts, communications, employee feedback) for the ITR HDNU engineering scope.

Essential Responsibilities

The Lean Leader will serve as facilitator, educator, advocate, consultant and accountability partner to the HDNU business and the Engineering teams to ensure the application of lean to Engineering and cross-functional business processes. They will also be responsible for driving projects across HDNU peer teams within engineering (GT, Controls, Generator, CMPD to name a few that are heavy contributors to the success of the HDNU deliverables) as well as engineering peer teams (Sourcing, Manufacturing, Projects).

The lean leader will also insure that the global HDPE ITR teams in the PPE organization and the component and product teams in PSSC are aligned and following best practices, standards, daily management and processes. Best practices and lessons learned will be commonly shared between the HDPE, Upgrades/CSE and the Aero team.

Key responsibilities include:

Advocacy …

  • Create a culture of “Lean Thinking” among the HDNU supporting Engineering People Leaders focused on Servant Leadership, Customer Focus, EPC, Partnering support & Employee Empowerment

  • Broaden the application of problem solving & continuous improvement tools in a way that will improve efficiency, capacity and process reliability

  • Enable & empower the HDNU Engineering resources to identify lean opportunities & locally act upon and drive process simplification/efficiency

  • Celebrate and share HDNU Engineering application of lean principles and techniques to recognize success and leverage lessons learned.

Organizational Learning …

  • Build organizational awareness and adoption of Lean as the business/functional operational model

  • Develop expertise and experience in the applicable lean principles, concepts & tools across the HDNU organizations

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to create training by GE for GE leveraging the quality application of the tools and techniques

Lean Strategy & Execution …

  • Partner with the Engineering and Project Lean Leaders to facilitate the Hoshin Kanri & Transformational Action Planning processes across the Gas Power Engineering teams to define & drive the necessary objectives and improvement actions aligned with the Gas Power strategy

  • Focus on applying Lean principles to the HDNU/Aero organization and solve critical issues identified by the HDPE leadership team relating to safety, quality, delivery, cash, and cost

  • Facilitate and ensure the linkage of lean improvements to project deliverables and contractual guarantees

  • Drive the necessary process standardization/harmonization for one integrated and streamlined Gas HDPE Engineering organization

  • Maximize employee driven process simplification and improvements through empowerment, local problem solving and continuous improvement tools

Lean Operations/Monitor & Control …

  • Own the monthly Engineering Operating Review and Daily Management rollup tied to the HDPE ITR improvement strategy

  • Monitor overall lean activities across HDPE organization to gauge rate of adoption; develop internal metrics where necessary to quantify business impact

  • Routinely pulse employees on progress of lean culture and areas to improve operational deployment of Lean

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or similar to field from an accredited university or college or equivalent knowledge and experience

  • Advanced experience leading teams in a matrixed environment with particular emphasis on transactional process versus manufacturing process.

  • Significant industrial related experience

Desired Characteristics

  • Preference will be given to current Gas Power Engineering employees

  • Practitioner and expert of Lean models, concepts & tools. Fluent in the language of lean, SME in this area. This is a coaching and teaching role.

  • Strong experience in structured problem-solving techniques using tools like TOPS 8D, A3, PSR, Apollo

  • Appropriate experience driving business transformation and/or lean adoption, preferably within an Engineering organization. The ideal candidate is a change agent that has led through tough situations and brings a will to win

  • Relentless desire to challenge status quo, not accept “as-is” and find a better way … focus on continuous improvement

  • Proven to be effective driving outcomes in large matrixed organizations – understands how to navigate geographies, cultures, relationships, etc. Can drive work globally.

  • Comfortable with conflict but leads as a collaborator, facilitator and strong partner.

  • Critical, systems thinker with the ability to bring others along, even those with conflicting priorities.

  • Data-driven but decisive despite ambiguity

  • Follows the principles of how we work together ... the Vernova way with focus on Innovation, Customers, Lean, One Team and Accountability

  • Customer-focused with clear, concise written and oral communications to the appropriate level

  • Candidates must be willing to travel if/as needed for Gemba, learning from place of work and implement solution

  • Prior experience in Power / Energy business

For U.S. based candidates only, for purposes of complying with U.S. pay transparency requirements, the base pay range for this position is $127,900.00 - 213,100.00 USD Annual.

The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for a 15% performance bonus.

*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
