Job Description Summary:

The Registered Dietitian (RD) is a qualified professional who is responsible for the development and implementation of clinical and operational strategies to promote the home nutrition support (enteral and parenteral patients) across multiple locations depending on where coverage is needed. The RD performs nutritional assessments to formulate and adjust nutritional goals for individual patients.

Job Description:

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.

  • Reviews new nutrition patient referrals and ensures clinical and fiscal appropriateness of ordered products and services.

  • Advises patients and their families on nutrition support administration, water delivery, accesses and pump management.

  • Documents all interventions pertaining to nutritional care in patients' electronic medical record.

  • Maintains knowledge of products and reimbursement guidelines to effectively answer questions for patients, referral sources, prescribers and the organization’s employees.

  • Performs ongoing clinical review of nutrition patients according to age-appropriate policies.

  • Participates in performance improvement activities, data collection, outcomes measurement and multidisciplinary nutrition care planning.

  • Understands Medicare qualification and billing practices for parenteral and enteral nutrition therapies. Reviews and oversees documentation obtainment for justification of nutrition services as requested.

  • Sets high goals and quality comprehensive services to all customers and coworkers through a team approach.

  • Develops and implements written nutrition plans of care, in conjunction with physicians, healthcare personnel, patients and caregivers.

  • Uses clinical data to identify and diagnose nutrition-related problems, selects appropriate interventions, tracking progress toward goals. Performs nutritional assessments using various techniques including but not limited to: estimation of nutrient intake, calculation of nutritional requirements, anthropometrics, evaluation of selected laboratory results and assessment of drug-nutrient interactions. Communicates findings of nutritional assessments to appropriate disciplines and documents with progress notes and assessments of patients’ medical records.

  • Obtains nutrition orders from qualified healthcare professionals in accordance with law and regulations. Completes medical documentation associated with orders as assigned (Durable Medical Equipment Information Form, etc).

Basic Education/Experience

  • Registered Dietitian with a license/certification in the current state of practice, as appropriate.

  • Current registration as Registered Dietitian with Commission on Dietetic Registration.

  • Certified Nutrition Support Clinician.

  • Licensed in state of residency (if licensure is available) and in good standing.

  • Minimum of two (2) years nutrition support experience.

  • One (1) year DME, Infusion or Home Health experience.

  • Experiential requirements may be waived in lieu of evidence of progressive growth in and attainment of the skills necessary to perform the required duties.

Basic Qualifications

  • Knowledge of regulations and legal requirements governing the industry.

  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and requirements.

  • Skill in following new strategies, operations and procedures.

  • Extensive knowledge in nutrition support for disease- and age-specific populations.

  • Knowledge of computerized information systems, including basic reimbursement applications.

  • Knowledge of parenteral and enteral nutrition reimbursement: state, federal and commercial.

  • Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret clinical information appropriate to duties and responsibilities assigned. Ability to operate information systems, follow policy, complete required forms, and prepare reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from referral sources, managers, patients, employees, payors and the general public.

  • Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as parenteral and enteral nutrition formula calculations, percentages, and volume.

  • Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of abstract variables.

Due to state pay transparency laws, the full range for the position is below:

Salary to be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Pay Range is $33.09-$55.14
