Job Description:

This is professional services work of a managerial nature performing team and project management for transportation engineering within the Department of Transportation, Bridge Program. Responsibilities include the management, development, and delivery of MaineDOT’s infrastructure for a significant number and variety of moderately to very complex, public capital improvement projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading one of the major teams in the Bridge Program comprising of engineers, project managers, and technicians to ensure the successful delivery of the team’s assigned portfolio of projects each Capital Work Program.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining project schedules and budgets, monitoring project expenditures, making appropriate project budgetary adjustments, authorizing work by team members, consultants, and contractors, and allocating team resources.

  • Evaluates and reviews work in progress as well as upon completion to ensure adherence to Departmental policies, standards, obligations, program direction as well as all applicable federal and state laws and regulations.

  • Serve as the Department’s primary contact for municipal officials, legislators, planning organizations, federal officials, and other stakeholder groups to be able to discuss project issues and resolve problems as well as meeting with and conducting public meetings with said groups.

  • Administering a variety of complex engineering functions relative to construction of public works structures and facilities such as highways, bridges, and railways.

  • Manage contract procurement process including reviewing proposals and other contractual agreements in order to negotiate, approve, and prepare the procurement of external resources as well as establish agreements with municipalities.

Supervision is exercised over technical, engineering, and professional personnel. Work is performed under administrative direction.

To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:

Registered as a Professional Engineer and at least one (1) year of project management experience at the professional level -OR- 12 years of technical engineering experience with at least three years of project management experience.
