Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.
Master of Science in planetary science, geology, material science, chemistry, or related discipline from an accredited college or university.
Prior/current experience as a researcher in the Astromaterials Science and Exploration ( ARES ) division, NASA Johnson Space Center with at least 5 years experience analyzing samples by powder X-ray Diffraction and extensive knowledge in Rietveld refinement.
Demonstrated experience leading teams for projects including the Sample Tube Isolation Container ( STIC ) and Secondary Outer Containment Case ( SOCC ) for the anticipated return of samples from Mars.
Evidence of scholarly outcomes in topics including: review of the phyllosilicates in Gale Crater, Mars; synthesis/dissolution of phosphates with implications for Mars; soil simulant for in-situ water-extraction studies on Mars; climate driven processes in Gale Crater, Mars.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience analyzing and interpreting XRD data from meteorites, asteroids, Lunar rocks, Mars analog samples, and terrestrial samples.
Demonstrated experience analyzing Bennu asteroid samples from the OSIRIS -Rex mission, including performing analysis and identification of minerals to be disseminated in the news and various media sources.
Demonstrated experience maintaining delicate high-precision instrumentation such as an analog of the Chemistry & Mineralogy (CheMin) XRD instrument onboard the Curiosity rover, in Gale crater, Mars.
Demonstrated experience analyzing and interpreting the mineralogy of samples analogs of Mars, the Moon, and Venus, as well as materials for use in spacesuits and ball bearings for engineering groups.

Responsible for providing entry level professional support to a grant.
Job Duties
The primary job duties of this position include conducting research, development, and assimilation of functional outcomes on technical and/or scientific topics as specified in Task Order requirements.
Conduct research related to inorganic geochemical, and kinetic experiments on minerals analogous to minerals on Mars. Perform XCT and magnetometry studies and provided recommendations for the materials and protocols to use in the final design of the STIC / SOCC .
Lead the Sample Tube Isolation Container ( STIC ) and Secondary Outer Containment Case ( SOCC ) project for the anticipated return of samples from Mars. Collaborate with ESA , SMEs, etc. adhering strictly to export control and navigating delicate foreign relations.
