UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN Radiation Safety Specialist I in Austin, Texas

Performs laboratory inspections and radiological surveys. Performs survey instrument calibrations and sealed source leak tests. Participates in x-ray safety program.Checks in and delivers RAM packages in a compliant and timely manner. Coordinates radioactive waste collection, processing, and disposal. Participates in quarterly inventory verification.Supports UT Radiation Safety dosimetry program, including receipt, distribution, and collection of EHS and campus area dosimetry. Reviews dosimetry reports for unusual exposures, and verifies dosimetry is returned and analyzed in timely manner.Evaluates current processes and procedures, identifies program areas that need improvement. Develops and implements new processes or procedures as needed to increase efficiency, reduce errors, and decrease the risk of non-compliance.Produces reports and maintains detailed records of completed tasks as appropriate to demonstrate compliance. Demonstrates the ability to follow standard operating procedures and meet assigned deadlines.Recognizes safety concerns outside of primary area of focus: general laboratory safety, laser safety, etc. Other general safety activities as assigned by Associate Director. Maintains acceptable driving record as required by UT Policy: UTS157, Section 2.5.4.
