Senior Manufacturing Equipment Engineer (Multiple Positions), Tesla, Inc., Austin, TX:
Design, develop, improve, and maintain new automation equipment for Teslas advanced cell manufacturing equipment for cutting-edge Tesla Energy Batteries. Work closely with Engineering (Design and Manufacturing), Quality, and Process teams to bring the new product from initial design, through prototype development, and finally into full production. Validate and characterize new or current equipment and fixtures for introduction to the production floor. Coordinate safety and ergonomic improvements to production equipment to meet or exceed regulations or best practices. Collaborate with external equipment suppliers on equipment design and improvement. Work with Controls Engineers to troubleshoot and recover processes by PLC, HMI, or tool management software, and implement changes or improvements. Create detailed Manufacturing Instructions to define new processes and document new equipment operations. Develop preventive maintenance procedures and a comprehensive spares list to maximize the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of equipment. Support the technical team in complex failures, and troubleshooting in automated and servo-controlled systems. Train technicians and line operators on automated systems troubleshooting and operation. Debug and optimize automated processes to maximize cycle time and specify hand tools for manual assembly tasks. Coordinate continuous improvement projects to drive equipment improvements based on PFMEA or DFMEA risk assessment to maximize the OEE of the equipment. Create machine interactions with a plant-wide Manufacturing Execution System (MES). Support the Quality and Production team to ensure the quality of the processes and the final product.
Full time employment, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, and two (2) years of experience supporting electromechanical systems or software systems within a manufacturing engineering. Alternatively, will accept a Master's degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
Academic background, internship, or work experience to include: Ramping equipment into manufacturing by supporting at least one (1) of the following: automation equipment, web handling, design of electromechanical systems, PLCs, motion controls, or data capture; SolidWorks or Catia to design mechanical equipment, fixtures, and tooling; Reading and interpreting layouts, tooling drawings, pneumatic schematics, or electrical schematics; Fanuc robot programming; Manufacturing Execution System (MES); and Vision systems including Cognex or Keyence.
