Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Mechanic to join our team for Phase 2 of the Capstone project at the Apple Campus in Austin. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge in the trade, as they will be required to work independently and adhere to a tight schedule. The primary responsibilities include fabricating, installing, and repairing sheet metal components, particularly within HVAC systems, in the Kilgore, Texas area. The role involves using tools such as shears, brakes, and welding equipment to cut, bend, and assemble metal pieces according to blueprints and project specifications. Maintenance and repairs on existing sheet metal systems are also part of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Reading and interpreting blueprints to accurately lay out sheet metal components.

  • Cutting and forming sheet metal using power tools like shears, power saws, and brakes.

  • Assembling and installing sheet metal pieces by welding, soldering, riveting, or using mechanical fasteners.

  • Detecting and repairing leaks in existing sheet metal systems.

  • Measuring and marking sheet metal accurately for cutting and forming.

  • Maintaining tools and equipment to ensure they are in proper working order.

Essential Skills

  • Mechanical aptitude with a strong understanding of basic mechanical principles.

  • Attention to detail to ensure precise measuring and cutting for accurate fabrication.

  • Problem-solving skills to diagnose issues with sheet metal systems and find effective solutions.

  • Physical strength and stamina to lift and maneuver heavy sheet metal components.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Apprentice license.

  • 2-4 years of experience in commercial plumbing installation.

  • OSHA 10 certification.

  • Basic tools required for the job.

Work Environment

Candidates will fit into a culture that values care for work and colleagues. The work schedule is 6 days per week, from 7 AM to 5 PM, with the possibility of working later if needed. The project is located at 6900 West Parmer Lane, Austin, Texas.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Austin, Texas.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $38.00/hr.
