Job Title: Tissue Technician

Job Description

Under the direct supervision of a Pathologist and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Tissue Technician performs preparation and gross examination of surgical pathology specimens, preparation and staining of fine needle aspiration, bone marrow smears, and frozen sections.

Responsibilities

• Prepare body, set up for autopsy, and clean after autopsy.

• Dictate gross description and cassette summary.

• Dissect large and complex specimens.

• Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists, according to policies and procedures.

• Ensure proper specimen accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples (30-50 cases daily).

• Process paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting.

• Perform gross tissue examination (high complexity testing) if personnel qualifications are met.

• Maintain wet tissue storage.

• Process, prepare, and send specimens to outside laboratories and accurately complete all associated paperwork.

• Label, store, handle, and dispose of reagents and hazardous wastes according to local, state, and federal regulations, including recycling or reprocessing of reagents used in the department/unit and neutralizing formaldehyde before disposal.

Essential Skills

• Experience in grossing biopsies (1 year minimum).

• Proficiency in grossing, specimen processing, and grossing biopsies.

• Familiarity with EPIC and CoPath.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Candidates with Veterinary Dx/Animal grossing experience are not considered at this time.

Work Environment

The position is based in a fast-paced pathological laboratory handling 30-50+ cases daily. Must be able to pick up training within 1-2 weeks. The schedule is Monday to Friday from 11 AM to 7 PM. This is a short term contract role with potential to go perm

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00
