Job Description
As an Animal Care Technician focusing on cage washing duties, you will be responsible for operating mechanical cage washing equipment, autoclaves, and other sanitizing equipment. Your role will include maintaining detailed records of maintenance schedules, detergent and disinfectant use, and performance tests for cage washers and autoclaves. You will also ensure adequate levels of cage wash chemicals and perform daily animal health observations and husbandry duties to maintain the quality and health of research animals. Must be comfortable with the transport of deceased animal's.
Responsibilities
Operate mechanical cage washing equipment, autoclaves, and other sanitizing equipment.
Place processed bedding, feed, and other related items into assembled, sanitized cages.
Maintain detailed records of maintenance schedules, detergent and disinfectant use, and performance tests for cage washers and autoclaves.
Ensure adequate levels of cage wash chemicals.
Perform daily animal health observations and husbandry duties.
Conduct daily water bottle/automatic water line and cage checks.
Provide appropriate food and water to animals.
Perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required per SOP and/or specified protocols.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
Six months experience in research animal care and husbandry required.
Ability to stand, walk, or otherwise move about campus on a continuous basis.
Ability to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position objects and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
Ability to ascend/descend stairs on a regular basis.
Must have some kind of animal care, retail, vet experience, some kind of professional Animal Care required.
Work Environment
You will be working in an animal research lab with a high volume of rodents. The position involves working on the first shift. Please be aware that the environment may have the distinctive smells associated with an animal lab.
