Maryland Transportation Authority Welder (Skilled Trade Specialist II) in Baltimore, Maryland

Nature of Work:
The Welder is responsible for performing journey-level welding work at Baltimore area facilities and other facilities as requested. The employee may also provide additional support for carpentry, locksmithing, masonry, painting, plumbing and/or HVAC tasks with co-workers as needed.
The duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Inspects and repairs cracks in steel components of bridges, tunnels, etc.;
Inspects and repairs metal damage and fatigue on dump trucks and snow plows;
Fabricates metal components for various pieces of equipment;
Performs remodeling, repairs, and fabrication to buildings and offices; and
Performs functions related to the management of traffic.
This is maintenance work requiring physical exertion performed outdoors under all weather conditions or inside an MDTA building. Employees may be required to move objects weighing over fifty pounds and may also be required to work on equipment located on high poles or other elevated locations, and/or perform their job in cramped quarters in buildings or underground.
Employees in this classification are considered essential employees
and are subject to emergency call-back procedures, twenty-four hours a day, as may be required in order to maintain continuous operation of a facility. Employees may be required to work rotating shift work, to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a Skilled Trade Specialist Supervisor or other designated supervisor. Thecurrent vacancy exists at the Fracis Scott Key Bridge Maintenance Facility in Baltimore, MD.**

Education:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience
: Three years of experience performing skilled trade work inwelding.
The
ideal candidatewill possess the following:
- One year of experience performing skilled trade work in carpentry, locksmithing, masonry, painting, plumbing and/or HVAC.
