Job Overview:Upstate Niagara Cooperative, Inc. is seeking a Milk Accounting associate to join our team at our Membership Division. This role is crucial for maintaining accurate milk weight records, processing milk component tests, handling hauler payments, and supporting our membership functions. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical, and financial skills, as well as a commitment to quality service.

Key Responsibilities:

Weight Reconciliation:

  • Maintain and assign purchased milk tank numbers as needed.

  • Balance pounds with dealers bimonthly and purchased pounds with outside suppliers.

  • Verify the accurate input of pounds into appropriate tanks and validate tank calibration charts in the system.

Milk Component Tests:

  • Accumulate, process, and input outside supplier tests as they are received.

  • Distribute market summary reports to all receiving plants and provide reports to Federal and State regulators.

  • Supply the Membership accounting staff with required advance and final reports.

Hauler Payments:

  • Calculate hauling pool and member hauling deductions.

  • Process and mail hauler advances and final payments, including preparing hauler tax forms.

Membership Duties:

  • Maintain member history in the system, including pounds, gross dollars, and premiums.

  • Update the membership system with information from internal producer notices.

  • Prepare equity forms for ownership changes and new members.

  • Facilitate Section 199-A deduction member mailings as directed by Corporate Finance.

  • Monthly distribution of BTU reports to receiving plants for member and purchased milk.

Equity:

  • Calculate and process equity statements, year-end proceeds, and excess payment checks for active members.

  • Process checks for inactive members and collaborate with Corporate Finance on equity projections at year-end.

Member Website:

  • Maintain member login and password information for accessing quality data (details to be confirmed with the new system).

Other Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and file 1099-PATR tax forms.

  • Respond to audit information requests from regulatory and financial auditors.

  • Proofread various division documents, including member change forms, newsletters, and annual reports.

  • Attend cooperative committee meetings and delegate meetings as needed.

  • Perform other projects and duties as assigned.

Backup Roles for Division Support:

  • Assist with member payroll and reconcile calibration worksheets.

  • Perform ticket data entry as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.

  • Previous experience in a similar role or in the agricultural sector is a plus.

  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with data management systems.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Pay:

$58,600-$76,200/year*

*The salary range indicated in this posting represents the minimum and maximum of the salary range for this position. Actual salary will vary depending on factors including, but not limited to, budget available, prior experience, knowledge, skill and education as they relate to the position’s qualifications, in addition to internal equity. The posted salary range reflects just one component of our total rewards package.
