To perform basic work in the installation, repair, adjustment and modification of electrical controls and electronic and pneumatic instrumentation for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, boiler systems, fire alarms, sound systems and energy management systems in a large, complex physical plant.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of experience in the installation or maintenance of pneumatic, electrical or electronic control systems for heating (including boiler), ventilating, or air conditioning systems.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Training in the installation or maintenance of pneumatic, electrical or electronic control systems for heating (including boiler), ventilating, or air conditioning systems will substitute for the required experience on a month for month basis.

Function of Work:
To perform basic work in the installation, repair, adjustment and modification of electrical controls and electronic and pneumatic instrumentation for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, boiler systems, fire alarms, sound systems and energy management systems in a large, complex physical plant.

Experienced.
Supervision Received:
General from an HVAC/Control Technician Foreman or assigned HVAC/Control Technician Master.
Supervision Exercised:
Functional over Trades Apprentices.
Location of Work:
May be used by all state agencies.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from HVAC/Control Technician Master by lack of leadworker responsibilities and/or performance of more complex tasks, such as responsibility for a energy management system or complex instrument repair.
Differs from HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanic by the presence of specialized technical duties peculiar to meter, instrument and electrical controls associated with large HVAC refrigeration and utility plant systems.
Examples of Work
Troubleshoots and performs basic repairs to boiler controls, flow switches, fire detectors, pressure switches, and relays, and performs combustion control analysis.
Performs basic level troubleshooting and repairs on fire alarm pull stations, smoke detectors, motor starters, and pneumatic control instrumentation.
Performs basic level repairs and troubleshooting on pocket pagers, two-way radios, sound systems and energy management systems.
Performs basic level repairs to heating, ventilation and air conditioning controls such as control valves, deck control thermostats, and pressure differential switches and sensors.
Uses basic level schematics and vendor manuals to assist in troubleshooting instrument and control problems.
Uses tools such as pressure and temperature gauges, volt-OHM meters, manometers and other basic test equipment.
