The Bowerman Footwear Lab (BFL) is a one-stop shop for Creation, Collaboration, and Education for the greater Nike Footwear community. They have all the machines to produce one-of-a-kind footwear in Oregon, facilities dedicated to hosting collaborative working sessions, and staff devoted to generating best in industry training courses around footwear product creation. The BFL team is a vital component in crafting the future of Nike Footwear. And the Footwear Production team plays an essential role by enabling speed, supporting education, and being the craftspeople that bring all the talents from the different BFL teams together into beautiful, functional footwear samples.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a Footwear Materials Buyer II. This individual contributor role is critical in ensuring that the BFL has all necessary materials, supplies, and equipment to create world class footwear. We have numerous teammates and requestors that we serve, so being able to intake and prioritize requests while clearly communicating to individuals is essential. This role works with the broader Nike purchasing, finance, and legal teams in conjunction with Nike’s purchasing systems. Day-to-day purchasing can be a simple data entry request to a complex contractual agreement between Nike and suppliers. We need individuals that can collaborate with internal and external partners to quickly resolve purchasing processes and roadblocks and get the BFL our materials needed for daily operations. The BFL encourages continuous improvement to ensure operational excellence throughout the organization. We are looking for a process-oriented individual that will continuously ask questions or provide thought partnership in ensuring that our buying processes are optimized for the BFL.

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON

If this is you, you will be a key member of the Operations Team in the Bowerman Footwear Lab at Nike’s World Headquarters. In this role you will partner with our prototyping, engineering, development, manufacturing, and facilities and maintenance teams to purchase all materials, supplies, equipment, and services needed to support the development of amazing new footwear products. You will lead the effort in setting up Nike/vendor contracts with support and collaboration from Nike’s legal and purchasing teams. Day to day work includes issuing purchase orders, coding invoices, and managing the coordination of getting materials and supplies to WHQ.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

Reporting to the Material Operations Senior Manager, you will team up daily with the other teammates from the BFL’s Operations team (Operations, Facilities & Maintenance, and Material Operations) as well as our Product Engineering, Footwear Development, Manufacturing, Prototyping, and Bowerman Creation University (BCU) teams. Common collaborators outside the BFL include (but are not limited to) Footwear Innovation, Design, Athlete Services, Materials Development, Footwear Product Testing, Engineering and Product Development.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Associates degree required in the relevant or a related field, or any acceptable combination of education and experience equivalent to a Associates degree in the relevant or a related field

  • Two years experience responsibility in Sourcing, Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, or Finance. Or any combination of experience and education.

  • A deep understanding of purchasing and supplier relationship management principles and application.

  • Advanced knowledge of purchasing systems such as Coupa, Avaro, and SAP.

  • Excellent customer service skills with both our internal and external collaborators.

  • Critical thinking & analytical skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills within a collaborative team environment with multiple stakeholders.

  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor messages to the given audience, present information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and multitask in a flexible, fast-paced, and challenging environment.
