Department Summary:

The Strengthen Coalition Capabilities Department (N124), within MITRE’s Air and Space Forces Center, seeks an innovative and experienced Lead Communications Engineer to lead and provide technical expertise for a dynamic work program. N124 is solving key integration and interoperability challenges across the U.S. security cooperation enterprise in three strategic regions: Pacific, Middle East, and Europe/Africa, while working across MITRE to advance defense postures of our international customers. The Lead Communications Engineer will integrate across the department and company focusing on working with our U.S. and international partners to advance mutual policy objectives, better position collaborative capabilities, and enhance concept and mission employment across Security Cooperation programs.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • You will serve as a thought leader in advanced tactical data link messaging and cross-platform messaging concepts engaging with sponsors and within MITRE to analyze operational requirements, address communications challenges, and apply sound technology solutions to benefit sponsor mission outcomes.

  • You will apply systems engineering, data science, and data modeling techniques to shape the development of a data centric language and a message schema along with message transformations necessary to enable joint all domain command and control (JADC2) interoperability across disparate platforms/sensors, multiple message domains, and operating environments.

  • You will guide the above-described DoD development efforts and provide verification and validation methods for establishing the prototype interoperability solution.

  • You will lead and actively collaborate across MITRE and DoD sponsor Working Groups and stakeholders with a diverse team to participate in technical exchange engagements to share knowledge and research and elicit feedback from a diverse set of subject matter experts.

  • You will Serve as a subject matter expert on government and industry best practices to create timely and actionable recommendations and create optimal interoperability solutions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, physics, computer engineering, mathematics, or similar field; or 6 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Familiarity with systems engineering across the development lifecycle from concept inception through requirements definition, system development, integration, and verification.

  • Experience with data modeling and mission systems engineering.

  • Familiar with DoD messaging standards Tactical Data Link standards such as Link 16, protocols, gateways, message forwarding, and battle management command and control (BMC2) tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).

  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate across multiple organizations and engineering disciplines.

  • Ability to document results through technical and non-technical briefings, memos, and formal reports.

  • Must have the ability to communicate complex concepts to different audiences; from high-level descriptions to detailed explanations is also required.

  • U.S. citizen with a DoD Secret and the ability to acquire and maintain a Top Secret clearance.

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have experience working with international partners

  • Experience with Foreign Military Sales and Direct Commercial Sales acquisitions processes

  • You possess an in depth understanding of Joint communications concepts and technologies, as well as familiarity with

  • Military operational experience with air related systems

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a similar field with 10+ years of related experience

  • You have software development experience with one or more software development tools/environments

  • You possess active Top-Secret clearance.

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$150,500 - $188,000 - $225,500 Annual
