Job Description 1. Provide a home that will provide a positive family experience and community experience to youth who have experienced trauma and neglect. 2. Your home must provide a structured, family atmosphere in that help the youth to learn what a positive home looks like and learn how to live in the community and remain law-biding. 3. Your home should provide an opportunity for family living experience where the youth can experience responsibility and the freedom to be inherent in a socially acceptable home environment. 4. Help prepare youth and their families for long-term or short-term placement, including return to the family home, longer term placement at the Satellite home or permanent foster placement following their Satellite Home living experience. 5. The parent is responsible for following through with client case plans, mental health services, and chemical dependency support. 6. The parents are responsible for the youth to attend school, medical appointments, dental and eye which will be covered by insurance that is provided by the counties. 7. Parent must attend staff meetings, reviews, court and provide progress review related to the youth s behavior while placed in the home. Satellite Home parents shall possess sufficient energy, sensitivity, motivation, resiliency and skills to provide a meaningful rehabilitative setting for children. 6. Northwestern Juvenile Center will provide Satellite Home parents, they are required to receive First Aid/CPR, Control Force Verbal De-escalation, Medication Training and Orientation. Homes are required to keep the training current as a part of a 20-hour annual training requirement. 7. Satellite Home Parents are required to maintain their homes. The Home is expected to meet all requirements of the Minnesota State Fire Code (MSFC) Home Safety Check List, and to maintain a clean, clutter-free and organized home. The yard shall be maintained and free of debris. Vehicles should be kept clean inside and out. Satellite Home Parents are required to have a valid Minnesota driver s license. 8. When one of the Satellite Home Parents are away from the Satellite Home overnight for an out-of-town visit or even the Satellite Home Supervisor or Superintendent shall be informed prior to the absence of the parent, Satellite Home Parents are to provide their own respite care worker. 9. Satellite Home Parents are required to inform the Satellite Home Supervisor or Superintendent of any mandated incidents required by the Minnesota State Statute (626.556 Reporting of Maltreatment of Minors) or any other incidents that may be of concern as soon as practicable. 10. At all times, vehicle keys are required to be on person or in a secure area. Medication is to be kept double locked in a locked/safe box and locked in a secure room. Location Counties within Northern Minnesota but not limited to Beltrami County, Cass Lake, Clearwater, Hubbard, Kittson, Lake of the Woods, Pennington, Roseau, Itasca Schedule Full-time Stay at home parent, one parent may work full time Pay 55.00 to 75.00 per diem per child per day depending on experience. Capacity depends on rooms and size determined by the Minnesota State Fire Marshell. Supplemental Pay Varies per county but may provide voucher support per youth. Health insurance provided for all youth Applicants for Satellite Home Parent assignments shall be required to complete all necessary application and employment particulars. Administration shall make inquiries into the background and personal characteristics of prospective Satellite Home candidates as deemed appropriate to ensure the safety and well-being of children placed in the Home. The Satellite Home Parent will need to be on site to perform job duties unless otherwise directed by the Satellite Home Supervisor. The Satellite Home Parent position is that of an At Will Employee . This position has a six-month initial period during which the employee will be evaluated for continuation of employment. Subsequent valuations of job performance will be completed on the anniversary date of hire; such evaluations shall be used to determine merit pay increases. As a condition of employment, the Satellite Home Parent will accept directions from supervisory staff and will refrain from behavior contrary to maintaining the integrity and orderly operation of Northwestern Minnesota Juvenile Center. Integrity, honesty and truthfulness in the performance of all job duty specifics is a requirement of this position. Qualifications Must be older than 21 years of age Must have a valid Minnesota driver Must pass a background check Must meet the requirements for DOC foster care license Understand and follow Foster Care Rule Requirements 2960 Foster Family Setting Work experience with trouble youth highly recommended Settings Must own or rent a home big enough to provide care for up to five co-ed, girls or male youth ages 10-19 that are able to function in a family setting in your home.
