Assistant Controller
Primary Purpose of Job
Responsible for management and oversight of daily accounting operations; analysis and preparation of monthly financial statements and annual audit work papers
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required ; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) a plus
3-5 years’ experience in a similar position; NY State OPWDD/SED experience preferred
Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel
Essential Functions
Responsible for supervising Accounting staff including, but not limited to training and mentoring of all team members
Monthly entries and analysis for the affordable housing project
Annual entries and workpapers, etc. for the affordable housing project
Monthly analysis and entries related to ASC-842 lease accounting
Oversight of fixed asset/plant accounting processes
Oversight of the grants accounting process
Oversight and participation in all month-end close activities
Prepare monthly Statement of Financial Position, cash flows and financial ratios analysis
Ensure timely and accurate delivery of monthly financial statements
Periodic review of payroll and related entries in the general ledger
Periodic update of property analysis book
Prepare and review of CFR schedules, as needed
Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships
Assess current practices and procedures; make recommendations for improvements and implement where appropriate
Communicate with outside auditors and other regulatory officials, as needed
Other duties, as assigned.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Ability
Substantial reasoning skills required including the ability to identify the problem, interpret data, draw conclusions and pose a resolution.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must have strong analytical skills and be able to work independently.
