WM Operations Improvement Manager I or II, Recycling in Billerica, Massachusetts

Preferred Skills, Experience and License: Data analysis, KPI and variance analysis and tracking; project management, experience with Lean Six Sigma and related tools; budgeting and financial statement analysis; sampling, compositional audit, QA and QC. Experience in a leadership role; experience coaching other leaders is a plus. Proficient with Microsoft Office, expertise with Excel and other data management software. Valid driver’s license.

Market Area: New England Market Area includes MA, ME, NH, NY, RI.

Preferred Location: Westborough, MA. Additional options include Billerica, MA and Avon, MA.

Travel: Up to 50% of time, or more, as business dictates, throughout Market Area, including, overnights. Most travel will be to CORe and Material Recycling Facilities (MRF).

Hybrid: May work from home some days, as approved.

I. Job Summary

Manages and coordinates implementation, execution and performance management of productivity and profitability analysis, labor management, standard operating processes, contract proforma and other best practices, in Market Areas generating revenues $400 million or greater. Collaborates with various functional and LOB Managers to evaluate and coordinate continuous improvement objectives.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

  • Partners with Managers to analyze Productivity performance, develop and implement continuous improvement plans.

  • Promotes MA, BU, Site, and LOB benchmarks, assisting Managers in labor management planning (LMT).

  • Coordinates and coaches Operating Standards Guidelines (OSG) processes.

  • Partners with others (Pricing, Sales etc.) to analyze pricing & customer profitability, coordinating appropriate corrective actions.

  • Introduces and coaches fundamentals of Business Improvement Program (BIP), evaluating current operating processes and assisting with priority process improvements.

  • Facilitates budget planning, analyzing year-to-date data versus prior year and budget.

  • Completes Economic Justification Models to support capital improvements.

  • Supports Standard Operating Procedures for recycling operations.

  • Works directly with facility management to conduct periodic operational and financial reviews, including maintenance, labor, and revenue.

  • Support ongoing capital and operating projects, including automation, within the area, data analysis; supervise quality leads within the market area.

  • Complete proforma for new contract bids, including renewals.

  • Complete monthly, and other periodic data analysis for operational and financial performance.

  • All other duties as assigned.

III. Supervisory Responsibilities

The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of supervisory employees. This includes:

  • Direct supervision of, approximately, 2 full-time employees, including: Quality Auditors.

IV. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (accredited), or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four (4) years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience: Seven (7) years of relevant work experience, including three (3) years as an Industrial Engineer or Project Manager in a manufacturing environment and/or three (3) years in Operations or District management or related industry (in addition to education requirement).

B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

  • None required.

C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

  • Industry operating experience.

  • Strong communication, coaching & motivation skills.

  • Ability to drive process culture change.

  • Ability to act independently and evaluate people, processes and performance management objectively and continuously.

  • Computer and associated software literacy. Highly competent in Microsoft and similar applications.

  • Strong analytical skills.
