Budget Title: Staff Assistant (SL-2)

Salary: $54,000 - $60,000

Residential Life launched an innovative new staffing model to better deliver services and experiences to the over 7700 residential students on campus. This new approach to providing support to students who live in residence requires a high level of support for multiple positions while also creating new opportunities to deliver on our department goals.

Residential Life Mission:

We provide a small school residential experience within a premier public university. Our dedicated staff and faculty educators engage with students in building strong communities that empower personal development and academic success. Our six diverse residential areas offer Bearcats a home away from home that supports learning and growth.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the operational oversight of all residence halls and state buildings under the oversight of Residential Life. State buildings include: Appalachian Collegiate Center (APP), Nelson A. Rockefeller Collegiate Center (NAR), Hinman Dining Center (HDC), Chenango-Champlain Collegiate Center (C4), Iroquois Commons, Tuscarora Office Building, and Hillside Commons.

  • Assist with the supervision of student operations staff. This includes shift scheduling, facilitating meetings and/or training sessions, maintaining online shift schedules and timesheets, and participating in new staff hiring processes.

  • Provide operational support to reservable spaces overseen by the Office of Residential Life. This includes meeting with individuals/groups requesting to use these locations in order to: review proposed setups, collect information for setup diagrams, process billing information, and/or develop additional plans for accommodation as needed.

  • Assist in the oversight and management of Residential Life storage and furniture stock including but not limited to organization, inventory, repair, and distribution. Aid with the procurement of fixtures, furnishings, and equipment for residence halls and state buildings. Provide on-site supervision of deliveries and installations.

  • Serve as a point of contact with Services for Students with Disabilities to help coordinate housing accommodations for students residing in residence halls.

  • Conduct monthly tours/inspections of all residence facilities with the appropriate Residential Life and Facilities Management personnel.

  • Serve as a contact for departmental equipment including green laundry carts, vacuums, air conditioners, vehicles, and appliances. Coordinate repair and replacement, and manage tracking.

  • Manage staff apartment operations including damage inspections, work order submissions, procurement, and data tracking.

  • Assist in all stages of project planning and implementation for Residential Life operations.

  • Aid with card access management and serve as a liaison between Residential Life and ITS.

  • Assist departmental and divisional sustainability initiatives.

  • Participate as active member of the Residential Operations team including contributing to the overall departmental efforts through committee participation, attendance at weekly meetings, training professional and paraprofessional staff, and undertaking special assignments in support of the program.

  • Participate in University's duty rotation involving various psychological, emotional, medical, or other safety-related emergencies or incidents (including periodic duty over campus breaks)

    Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience in Residential Life Operations or related field

  • Excellent administrative, communication, leadership and decision-making skills; flexible and adaptable to working in or with large or small teams

  • Ability to be self-directed, while comfortable working within a team

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in College Student Personnel or a related field

  • Previous experience working in Residential Life

  • Experience with supervising Student Staff Personnel
