Guthrie Unit Clerk - Acute Care - Part Time in Binghamton, New York
Position Summary:
Responsible for clerical duties, communication and reception duties on assigned nursing units. Provides general support to both clinical and non‐clinical. Demonstrates appropriate population specific communication skills.
Essential Functions:
Actively participates maintaining a safe environment. 1. Recognizes, troubleshoots and initiates corrective action needed on equipment.
Follows hospital and nursing department policies and procedures regarding the care and use of equipment and supplies.
Complies with all policies of the hospital and nursing department.
Utilizes proper body mechanics to prevent injury to self or patients.
Demonstrates organizational and time management skills.
Completes work within a timely manner according to department guidelines.
Maintains neat and clean work area.
Orders and maintains clerical supplies as necessary.
Orders necessary unit equipment and supplies.
Performs errands in a timely manner.
Demonstrates strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to communicate using telephones, intercom, computer systems.
Answers telephone promptly and politely, identifying self, title, and department.
Receives and sends messages in an accurate and timely fashion.
Communicates with the patients, family, and members of the health care team in a concise, tactful and considerate manner.
Must represent the hospital in a professional courteous manner while being sensitive to how others perceive both verbal and non verbal communications.
Implements Downtime process and procedures including order interpretation and transcription as necessary.
Notifies RN of any stat order.
Registers patients, assembles and disassembles charts in a timely manner, performs other clerical work according to unit guidelines.
Other Duties:
Assists in the orientation of new employees.
Attends and participates in unit council and unit clerk meetings (70% attendance).
Demonstrates awareness of need for self‐growth by assessing strengths and weaknesses and establishing written goals.
Demonstrates willingness to accept non‐routine work assignments as appropriate.
Encouraged to participate in community activities.
Is authorized to access secured storage areas in the performance of essential job functions and duties.
Follows hospital and nursing department policies and procedures during emergency or stressful situations including fire and disaster drills, and emergency situations.
Seeks supervision and guidance when appropriate.
Supports the philosophy of the hospital and of the department of nursing.
The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $22.37/hour
