Job Summary and Qualifications
The Trauma Program Manager works in concert with the Trauma Medical Director and hospital leadership to assure optimal trauma patient care services, quality outcomes, and compliance with local, state, and national standards for Trauma Center designation and verification. The Trauma Program Manager continually strives to achieve successful outcomes for all care and programs associated with the trauma service, serves as operational director for all internal/external program initiatives and hospital, local, state and American College of Surgeons requirements. The Trauma Program Manager is closely involved with administrative operations, financial support, clinical services, educational activities, outreach initiatives, and research activities of the Trauma Center. This position maintains responsibility/accountability for 24-hour/7-day management.
What you will do in this role:
Demonstrates excellence in strategic planning and coordination for the management of the quest for optimal care of the trauma injured across the care continuum.
Assures ongoing monitoring and system re-design to focus on excellence of care.
Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” and “Mission and Value Statement.”
Performs other duties as assigned.
Demonstrates commitment to maintaining market share through patient and consumer education and by improving patient and consumer satisfaction.
Assumes responsibility for the development of processes for monitoring and improving the financial performance and resource utilization of the Trauma Center.
Complies with and assists in enforcement of hospital and Trauma Center policies and procedures.
Prepares for verification and re-verification as a Trauma Center by maintaining, completing, and organizing supporting documentation such as Trauma Center application(s) and/or PRQ and completing the site verification and designation visits.
Demonstrates active participation in local, state, and national trauma organizations and committees, where applicable.
Conducts Trauma Department meetings in partnership with the Trauma Medical Director.
Manages the operational, personnel, and financial aspects of the trauma program, as appropriate. Serves as a liaison to hospital administration and represents the trauma program on various hospital, local, state, and national committees to enhance and foster optimal care management.
Assures budget development meets projected needs and all trauma service members are accountable to the budgetary success of the program.
Supports the trauma program through astute accuracy of all reports and timely submission of data to entities which provide funding for trauma care.
Provides feedback to referring physicians, nurses, and EMS agencies.
Maintains open lines of communication with regional hospital administrators, physicians, nurses and pre-hospital care providers through site visits, phone calls and letters.
Participates in the implementation and evaluation of programs supporting pre-hospital care, transportation, acute hospitalization, and rehabilitation care issues.
Provides for professional staff development and direct community trauma education and prevention programs.
Stabilizes the complex network of the many disciplines that work in concert to provide high-quality care. Serves as an internal resource for staff in all departments, and act as an extended liaison for EMS agencies.
Participates with internal and external disaster management planning. Serves as a member of the hospital disaster management committee.
Leads the change process and outcomes measures to address the needs of the trauma patient beyond their immediate episode of care by assuring the trauma client is connected to other hospital-based services and to the community at large to complete their recovery phase of care.
Demonstrates active involvement in research projects and the analysis and distribution of findings. Facilitates protocol design for accurate data collection, feedback and analysis as applicable for your facility.
Coordinates management across the continuum of trauma care, including the planning and implementation of clinical protocols and practice management guidelines, monitoring of in-hospital patients, and serving as a resource for clinical practice.
Assists with the coordination and implementation of the Trauma Quality Management Plan. Participates in case review and implementation and adherence monitoring of practice guidelines.
Collaborates with the Trauma Medical Director in the formulation of standards or performance, evaluation, and supervision of the Trauma Center’s clinical support staff.
Develops issue resolution activities to address events with opportunities. Monitors and mitigates for future events.
Monitors clinical processes, outcomes, and system issues related to the quality of care provided. Develops quality filters, audits, and case reviews to identify trends and events.
Supports marketing, branding, and community informational development for trauma.
Participates in local, state and national governmental policy development and supports the corporate government liaison.
Supervises the trauma registry team. Supervises the collection, coding, scoring and developing processes for the validation of data. Designs the trauma registry to facilitate performance improvement activities, trend reports, and research while protecting confidentiality.
Ensures trauma patients receive a continuum of optimal care within the context of the American College of Surgeons Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient Guidelines, Joint Commission Standards, and hospital policy and procedures.
Advises all departments on state regulatory standards for trauma care to achieve optimal care processes.
Maintains all forms of HIPPA and trauma patient confidentiality.
Coordinates efforts between local and regional trauma systems, supporting optimal quality of care for adults and children within the context of the American College of Surgeons Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient Guidelines, state and regional system regulations, Joint Commission Standards, Trauma Center and hospital Policy and Procedures.
Assumes responsibility for the Trauma Center’s mission statement, strategic planning, and personnel support.
Performs administrative functions, include initiating, developing, planning, and evaluating activities of the Trauma Center’s mission of providing optimal trauma care, as defined by the American College of Surgeons Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient.
Acts as an agent for the Trauma Medical Director to assure compliance with regional, state, and national trauma statutes and regulations.
Demonstrates outstanding trauma patient advocacy through the use of data and informational findings to develop measurable patient care and injury prevention initiatives.
What qualifications you will need:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing - Required
• Master’s Degree in Nursing or related health field - Preferred
• 3+ years experience in Nursing - Required
• 3+ years experience in Trauma Nursing - Preferred
• Experience in Quality/Performance Improvement - Preferred
• Experience in Project Management - Preferred
