This unique blended position offers you the chance to make a meaningful, year-round contribution in two critical areas in the IEP: program support and the adult English language classroom. As an IEP instructor, you will develop curriculum and teach a variety of core and specialized courses. Your in-person classroom teaching style will bring language learning to life; you will engage diverse groups of adult students through the use of innovative, student-centered strategies that make learning accessible, meaningful, and relevant.

On the program support side, you\'ll be a go-to resource, handling applications, guiding prospective students, and ensuring smooth, clear communication across our global community. You will manage student data using our student information systems and software, and collaborate with the team to keep the IEP running smoothly. A keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to juggle multiple administrative and teaching tasks will be keys to your success.

Department Overview:

The mission of the Intensive English Program at Boise State University is to provide multilingual students the opportunity to improve their English language skills for personal, professional, and/or academic success.

Level Scope:

Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures. Typically hold a Bachelor\'s or Advanced Degree and 5 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Essential Functions:

90% of the time the IEP Instructor and Program Coordinator will:

Program Coordination and Support

  • Provide program and administrative support
  • Assist in development, creation, and implementation of student program services and activities
  • Collaborate to ensure integrity and quality of services provided to students and sponsoring agencies.
  • Ensure timely and accurate communications and manage responses to inquiries from students and partners.
  • Maintain accurate student academic and financial records from inquiry to application to program completion for IEP
  • Review and process documents for international applicants and apply admissions standards
  • Monitor student record release and documentation following FERPA regulations.
  • Assist in tracking student progress through relevant IEP programs and processes
  • Collaborate, coordinate, and co-facilitate the planning and implementation of comprehensive student orientations. (5-10 annually)
  • Plan, coordinate and manage program activities throughout the year, as assigned.
  • Collaborate to propose, develop, coordinate and implement specialized programs and services
  • Coordinate housing arrangements for special programs, partner students, and international guests
  • Assist students with housing, employment, tech. and other issues as needed.
  • Provide culturally-sensitive academic and cultural support and advising to students regarding cross-cultural adjustment, academic requirements, campus services, and personal issues.
  • Act as a liaison betwe n IEP, IEP students, Boise State departments, and the community to advocate and support student success.
  • Manage IEP textbook selection, orders, and distribution, providing budget oversight
  • Develop and execute assigned projects and operation

IEP Instructor

Teach year-round core classes and specialized courses, depending on need;

Teach students at different levels, from different backgrounds, sometimes in blended-leveled classrooms

Develop syllabi and daily lessons/curriculum for assigned courses;

Develop appropriate materials, exercises and assessments for assigned classes;

Ensure that course goals, outcomes and classroom curriculum are aligned with the IEP program curriculum;

Assess student performance in an accurate and unbiased manner;

Update students\' grades and attendance weekly.

Keep students informed of their progress through regular feedback and graded material recorded through on-line grading system following the IEP guidelines;

Assess and provide final grades to students, and complete additional progress reports for various students in each course by set deadlines;

Meet with students as necessary to monitor progress on competencies, troubleshoot challenges, and give feedback regarding proficiency levels;
