Information Technology Services (ITS), currently has one opening for a Platform Engineer position within the Application Development team at our Chinden office in Boise. As a Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining an internal developer platform that empowers our software engineering teams to efficiently deliver customer products. Your role will focus on enabling development teams with self-service and automation tools to streamline software development, increase product quality, improve productivity, and enhance the developer experience.

The selected individual must possess in-depth knowledge and experience in IT infrastructure and cloud environments. This includes expertise in networking protocols and components, containerization, CI/CD pipelines, scripting languages, Infrastructure as Code, operating systems, data storage, and security best practices essential for delivering services and solutions.

Example of duties:

  • Works directly with software engineering teams to create and maintain an internal development platform to streamline application development and deployment.

  • Designs, implements, and maintains CI/CD pipelines to automate the software release process.

  • Maintains monitoring and logging systems to ensure application performance and reliability.

  • Identifies and automates repetitive tasks to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

  • Implements security best practices to protect the infrastructure and applications.

  • Diagnoses and resolves issues related to application deployment and operations.

  • Maintains configuration management tools to ensure consistency, security, and scalability across environments.

  • Provides training and support to development teams on platform tools and best practices.

  • Partners with engineering teams to define and implement best practices for source control, build processes, integration, automated testing, security scanning, and application delivery.

  • Installs, configures and implements infrastructure hardware/software solutions aligned to customer requirements.

  • Coordinates with vendors and internal teams to implement new solutions.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Considerable knowledge of current information technology trends and capabilities.

    Typically gained by a bachelor's degree directly related to information technology OR at least four years of work experience in information technology. Education and experience must be within the last five years.

  • Experience planning, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network, server, or storage systems.

Typically met by at least four years of full-time work experience where planning, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network, server or storage systems was part of the primary job responsibilities.

  • Resolving network or server problems.

Typically met by at least four years of full-time work experience (within the last five years) where resolving network or server problems was part of the primary responsibilities.

  • Working with end users to develop and implement information technology solutions for user computing needs in a business environment.

Typically gained by at least four years of full-time work experience where interviewing and consulting with clients/users to develop and implement solutions to meet computing requirements in a business environment was part of the primary responsibilities.

  • Experience as a technical lead implementing or supporting network, server, or storage systems.

    Typically gained by at least four years of experience as a lead or Subject Matter Expert in implementing or supporting network, server, or storage systems.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with both private and public cloud platforms such as VMware Cloud Foundation, Azure, or AWS.

  • Proficiency with containerization and container orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Experience in administering development and deployment tools such as Azure Pipelines, Jenkins, Azure DevOps Services, and Git.
