Commonwealth Care Alliance Addiction Services Clinician in Boston, Massachusetts

Why This Role is Important to Us:

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Behavioral Health, Acute Care Services, the Care Delivery, Addiction Services Clinician is a pivotal role responsible for participating in the organization's strategic initiatives around substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and recovery. This position is instrumental in developing, implementing, innovative, evidence-based SUD programs that align with CCAs mission of providing care to high-need individuals. This clinician will serve as the subject matter expert to integrate comprehensive SUD services (Opioid, Alcohol, Tobacco etc.) across the care delivery continuum, champion a harm reduction approach, and spearhead initiatives to combat stigma.

This role provides guidance to a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, including nurses, advanced practice clinicians, behavioral health specialists, and community health workers when providing care to patients with SUD. The clinician in this role, considered a subject matter expert, will also provide mentorship and guidance to staff at all levels of the organization, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement in SUD care.

Implementing clinical expertise, this position plays a crucial role in enhancing patient outcomes, promoting organizational growth, and advancing CCAs commitment to holistic, community-focused healthcare.

What You'll Be Doing:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Spearhead the development and implementation of innovative substance use disorder (SUD) treatment programs across the organization, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and best practices.

  • Design and oversee the establishment of a Long-Acting Injectable (LAI) clinic for buprenorphine and vivitrol, creating a scalable framework for future LAI approaches. This includes developing reimbursement models, managing procurement, and optimizing staffing structures.

  • Cultivate expertise in SUD treatment among multidisciplinary teams through mentorship and education, targeting CSCs, behavioral health clinicians, community health workers, nurses, advanced practice clinicians, physicians, and non-clinical staff.

  • Champion a harm reduction philosophy throughout all care delivery programs, fostering a patient-centered approach to SUD treatment.

  • Strategically integrate peer recovery coaches into care delivery, enhancing patient support and treatment efficacy.

  • Provide high-level clinical expertise by performing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for SUD patients across various care delivery programs.

  • Drive cross-organizational SUD programming and education initiatives, ensuring consistent and high-quality care standards.

  • Lead efforts to combat SUD stigma within the organization and broader community, promoting a culture of understanding and evidence-based treatment.

  • Architect and launch an on-demand model to enhance access to evidence-based medications for SUDs, improving patient outcomes and organizational efficiency.

Working Conditions:

  • Work locations include virtual, clinic, residential and community sites.

What We're Looking For:

Required Education (must have):

For Physician Assistant:

  • Graduation from a program that is designed to prepare the PA for practice; and holds accreditation from a Board recognized national accrediting organization for academic programs

  • Current Physician Assistant board certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants

For Nurse Practitioner:

  • Graduation from a graduate degree program that is designed to prepare the RN for practice as a certified NP; and holds accreditation from a Board recognized national accrediting organization for academic programs

  • Current certified adult or family nurse practitioner certification granted by a Board Recognized APRN Certifying Organization

  • Secondary board certification as a certified addictions registered nurse-advanced practice.

For Both PA and NP:

  • Completion of training required pursuant to M. G.L. c. 94C, ยง 18(e) related to prescriptive practice

  • Current CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

Desired Education (nice to have):

  • MPH or MBA

Required Licensing (must have):

For Physician Assistant:

  • Evidence of License to practice as shown by a certificate of registration as a physician assistant from the Board of Registration of Physician Assistants in MassachusettsFor Nurse practitioner:

  • Evidence of License to practice as shown by a certificate of registration as an advanced practice RN from the Board of Registration in Medicine, which includes:valid Massachusetts RN licensure in good standing

For PA, NP:

  • Current Mass Controlled Substances License

  • Current DEA Controlled Substances License

Desired Licensing (nice to have):

  • MI licensure

MA Health Enrollment (required if licensed in Massachusetts):

  • Yes, this is required if the incumbent is licensed in Massachusetts.

Required Experience (must have):

  • 5-7 years clinical practice treating substance use disorders

  • 5 years of clinical programmatic implementation and operational experience

Desired Experience (nice to have):

  • Understanding budgeting and managing to P&L.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (must have):

  • Strong acumen and understanding of healthcare, health insurance, health plan, and managed health care organizations required, with a strong preference for government programs (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, MMP, Duals, SNP, LTSS, and behavioral health).

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, oral, listening, and written communication skills, are required.

  • Strong computer and IT skills required, including highly advanced Epic, eClinicalWorks, Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, and Project Management expertise, among other relevant programs.

  • Strong ability and comfort in operating in a matrixed, complex, integrated, fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment, and within a cross-organizational and departmental setting wherein key stakeholders do not necessarily report to you.

  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, communication (verbal and written), and presentation (formal written and verbal) skills.
