WM Director, Environmental Protection in Boston, Massachusetts

I. Job Summary

Under the direction of senior management, responsible for developing, enhancing and implementing the company's environmental program, policies, procedures and systems within a designated Group. Collaborates in the development of national (company-wide) Environmental Protection (EP) programs that serve to promote environmental stewardship. Works with senior management at the Corporate, Group and Area levels to increase the consistency and effectiveness of the EP programs across the company.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

Plans, organizes and manages the environmental protection program within assigned Group and across all Market Areas.

Utilizes and manages Market Area and Group team of EP Managers and Specialists. Provides program tools and technical guidance to team ensuring consistent direction for the EP program.

Researches and analyzes proposed legislation that may impact company operations. Provides assistance and technical direction to field operations in all areas of environmental protection and operational impact. Recommends solutions and changes to field operations where necessary.

Works closely with field operations trouble shooting problems and issues, setting goals and objectives and measuring performance of the EP program. Assists in permitting and expansion projects including project management, application preparation, document review, plan writing and final permit negotiations. Manages the development of new technology for increased profitability while controlling environmental impact.

Develop, analyze, audit, summarize and publish EP performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.

Works with governmental agencies and representatives as company representative of EP. Monitors new developments in environmental regulatory requirements. Initiates and actively participates in developing the company’s response. Ensures compliance through incorporating and applying this information into the tactical business planning.

Manages and supervises a team of 2 or more employees.

A. Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in a related discipline

  • Experience: 10 years environmental experience, 5 years proven leadership experience

B. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

  • MS Office familiarity, general computer acumen and ability to learn to utilize other job-related technical software. Familiarity with statistical methods. Research skills. A working knowledge of the company's operations and business hierarchy.
