ROLE SUMMARY
The VP, US Field Medical (FM) Lead is responsible for leading the US Field Medical Director (FMD) and Field Medical Outcomes (FMO) organization across therapeutic areas for Specialty Care (SC) and Internal Medicine (IM) and they will need to partner with the Vaccines/AV Field Medical Group Lead.
As the overall lead for the US FM organization, this leader will set the group's vision and strategic direction to yield the highest level of medical impact for the US FM organization. The FM Lead will ensure the teams medical strategies and activities are fully aligned with US Brand Medical Affairs and related business partner priorities across SC and IM priority therapeutic areas. This role partners cross-functionally with US Brand Medical, Global Medical Affairs, Global Health and Value, Research & Development, and other key internal business partners to ensure the FM organizations expertise, capabilities, and activities optimally meet the medical needs across the lifecycle of all the in-line and late-stage portfolio of medicines. The FM Lead will also facilitate and manage the team's appropriate internal information sharing and coordination (e.g., with relevant U.S. commercial teams) to ensure that they are conducted in compliance with both Pfizer and external policies, guidelines, and regulations.
The US FM Lead is accountable to oversee all aspects of the FM organization which is a group of field- based medical professionals, with medical expertise and understanding of the patients, health systems and payer needs relative to specific therapeutic area(s) and Pfizer medicine(s) located across the US that contribute to Pfizer's ability to (a) communicate new and important approved medical content to health care professionals and key decision makers in local, regional, or national capacities, (b) provide truthful, accurate and scientifically supported information in response to direct unsolicited medical requests from health care professionals in a manner that complies with all applicable Pfizer guidelines, policies, and procedures; and (c) provide important data, facts and observations that serve as the foundation of medical insights (d) partner across Medical to identify and define unmet medical needs and align, as appropriate on how to best address gaps in patient care and (e) provide therapeutic area/product information for regional and other Medical Affairs and/or clinical development needs as necessary and approved by US Medical leadership (e.g. formulary presentations; field force training, organized customer projects/collaborations, scientific congress participation, TA/product expertise for Pfizer-sponsored NIS, IIR inquiries etc.). This role will oversee all therapeutic areas for FM across SC and IM.
The US FM Lead is a key member of the US Medical Leadership Team and reports to the Head of US Medical Affairs. He/she and will contribute to the development of a vision, strategic direction, and implementation plan regarding alignment of cross-functional engagement of customers across the U.S. and ensure the FM roles and activities result in a positive medical customer experience and impact
Reports to the Head of US Medical Affairs
Maintains a strong partnership with Field Medical Governance in the Chief Medical Office and represents US Field Medical across SC, IM and Vaccines/AV on the US Field Based Medical Governance Committee (or analogous group)
Is a member of US Medical leadership team and the US Field Medical Council (or analougous group)
Maintains strong working relationships with Global Medical Affairs Leads, US Medical Affairs Brand Leads, Clinical Sciences, and Medical Information
Maintains strong working relationships and communications with Pfizer commercial lines in the region and headquarters
Maintains strong working relationship with necessary platform functions such as Legal, Compliance and People Experience
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Leads a team of field-based Field Based Medical colleagues across all therapeutic areas in SC and IM and partners with the Field Group Lead for Vaccines/AV
Manages respective budget for the US FM organization and associated FTEs.
Accountable for managing administrative and project budget associated with respective team. Proactively assesses and makes recommendations regarding FTE allocations across the full portfolio and major expenditures during the fiscal year.
People Management:
Build leading edge capabilities, drives functional excellence and ensures the highest levels of integrity and compliance in all activities/engagements
Responsible for leading, managing, developing, and coaching all FM Leaders across the US.
Retain talent and in collaboration with the US Medical Leadership the selection of new team members as needed
Focuses on Medical Professionalism, integrity and maintains a high functioning and performance focused culture for the team.
Develops and maintains working relationship with People Experience to help manage talent and any performance issues.
Manages performance appraisals, compensation planning and colleague development.
Strategy and Business Planning:
As member of the US Medical leadership team contribute to the development and execution of team medical plan(s) that is aligned with the respective US Medical Affairs plans for in-line and late-stage medical strategies and objectives
Contributes to the strategic operating planning across all therapeutic areas for SC and IM and provides insights for Vaccines/AV, as needed
Operational Management:
Anticipate evolution of FDA and other US regulations and guidance that impact interactions with and delivery of medical information to external healthcare professionals including health systems and payers.
Anticipate and partner internally to adopt new digital technology, on demand, and other related offerings that improve the efficiency of FM communications activities and/or enhance the overall medical customer experience.
Keep updated on scientific and medical literature and developments within a designated therapeutic area(s).
Align with US Medical Leadership on appropriate quantitative and qualitative metrics that measure the impact of the FM team that resonate broadly with medical colleagues and internal stakeholders.
Stays current on all relevant Pfizer SOPs and guidance documents.
Ensures team activities are conducted in compliance with both internal and external policies, guidelines, and regulations. Ensure compliance of team members with required responsibilities, including completion of assigned SOPs by stated deadlines.
Guides work prioritization and resource allocation within team.
Authorizes expenditures related to travel, training, supplies and other miscellaneous team expenses.
Actively engage in relevant budget planning process.
Partners with administrative professional staff to ensure effective administrative professional staff support is provided to the team.
Ensure that communication and collaboration between HQ, across Field Medical and other medical and commercial functions is effective, appropriate, and compliant, and that the medical professionalism of the teams in the creation and implementation of its objectives and activities is maintained .
Other Managerial Responsibilities:
Serve on Medical Affairs and/or cross-functional, cross divisional and cross business unit committees.
Interact with investigators and other HCPs as appropriate in clinical and research activities
Regularly conduct "skip level" meetings and/or Field Rides with selected colleagues in the group
BASIC QUALFICIATIONS
Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop, and coach others, oversee, and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
M.D., Ph.D. or Pharm.D. required
MD and more than 9 years; PharmD/PHD and more than 15+ years of relevant health care experience required; with at least 10 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
Experience in key SC and IM therapeutic areas is preferred
Field-based medical leadership experience strongly preferred.
Leadership experience as both a direct line manager, and significant demonstrated leadership skills in a matrix environment.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and self-awareness skills.
Demonstrated ability to rapidly adopt and utilize new digital technology and other resources with medical customers and record medical interactions (e.g. iPAD, Acronis, WEBEX, on-demand videoconferencing, OneMed)
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate, develop and lead a team in a complex, changing environment that is focused on generating a positive medical customer experience.
Strong strategic, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Ability and interest to manage a team of geographically located professionals.
Ability to work independently with show flexibility and organizational awareness and align with business priorities and strategies
Must be decisive, exercise good judgment in decisions, organized and with the ability to prioritize a large workload.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
Ability to travel nationally within the US as needed for the business;
Ability to regularly fly on airplanes (e.g., 'ride days' with FM colleagues; attend HCP/customer meetings; attend offsite leadership meetings) required; air travel up to 40%.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $292,700.00 to $487,800.00.* In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 35.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
