How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?Position Title: Field Service TechnicianTravel: 75% travel across all of the Mid-America Region. Overnights based on installationsThe (Cryogenic) Field Service Technician is responsible for installing and servicing on-site nitrogen generation plants and bulk medical or industrial gas systems in a safe and operationally effective manner, in accordance with all federal, state/provincial and local codes, and Airgas policies Installs and maintains nitrogen on-site generation equipment. Installs cryogenic bulk installations both at Airgas facilities and customer sites. Repairs pressure reduction equipment associated with bulk delivery systems. Analyzes and makes general repairs to electrical systems associated with N2 generation and cryogenic installations, including: motor controls and relays, low pressure, high pressure and liquid level alarm systems. Installs decals and warning signs for the proper identification of hazards, warnings, ownership, normal operational settings, emergency contacts, etc. Performs installation of piping systems in accordance with company SOP's. Performs Site Surveys to assure compliance with all federal, state/provincial and local codes. Performs periodic preventative maintenance tasks on N2 generation equipment based on the PM schedule. Performs annual inspections of all bulk installation sites to assure their condition and correct operation. Adheres to and ensures that safety policies and procedures are followed. Maintains an appropriate stock of recommended parts necessary to repair typical installations within the assigned customer base.

The Cryogenic Field Service Technician is responsible for the safe and operationally effective installation and servicing of on-site nitrogen generation plants and bulk medical or industrial gas systems. All work must adhere to federal, state, and local codes, as well as Airgas policies.

Key Duties:

  • Installation and maintenance of on-site nitrogen generation equipment.

  • Installation of cryogenic bulk installations at both Airgas facilities and customer sites.

  • Repair of pressure reduction equipment associated with bulk delivery systems.

  • Analysis and repair of electrical systems related to N2 generation and cryogenic installations, including motor controls and relays, low pressure, high pressure, and liquid level alarm systems.

  • Installation of decals and warning signs to ensure proper identification of hazards, warnings, ownership, normal operational settings, and emergency contacts.

  • Installation of piping systems in accordance with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Conducting site surveys to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state/provincial, and local codes.

  • Performing periodic preventative maintenance tasks on N2 generation equipment according to the Preventative Maintenance (PM) schedule.

  • Conducting annual inspections of all bulk installation sites to assess their condition and ensure correct operation.

  • Adherence to and enforcement of safety policies and procedures.

  • Maintaining an adequate inventory of recommended parts necessary for repairing typical installations within the assigned customer base.

EDUCATION, KNOW-HOW, AND EXPERIENCE:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

College or technical degree preferred.

Minimum of 2 years of diagnostic and/or repair experience in some or all of the following is required: cryogenics, high pressure piping, brazing, programmable controls, and process instrumentation.

Prior experience working with bulk gas delivery systems, pumps, or mechanical machinery.

Experience in the HVAC or plumbing industry with hands on welding/brazing skills a plus.

Able to understand piping and tank detail from manuals and mechanical drawings and/or P&ID's.

Ability to understand and apply applicable standards for good manufacturing practice set forth by the CGA, NFPA, NEC and other professional/regulatory bodies.

Ability to use hand tools (electrical and manual) in a safe manner.

Must have strong math skills; ability to calculate figures and units of measure.

Skills to prioritize integrated service activities to maximize time spent working on equipment at customer locations.

Must be customer service oriented and able to interact with both internal and external customers in a professional manner.

Must have a valid driver's license and clean DMV report, may require DOT physical.

Must be able to work flexible hours to meet customers' needs and managements' expectations.

Must be willing to be away from home for up to 3-5 days at a time for installs and certification schools.

Must be able to work occasional overtime to meet operational deadlines.

Takes initiative to problem solve and troubleshoot with results.

Must be able to operate a forklift and scissor lift, and be able to maintain appropriate certifications.

Ability to routinely lift 25-50 lbs and occasionally lift 51-80 lbs with material handling equipment.

Ability to work safely under pressure to meet deadlines.

Team player attitude with ability to work with a wide variety of people with different personalities and backgrounds.

Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment.
