Position Details
General Statement
The Landscape and Grounds Department of Facilities Services is responsible for:
Minimizing the deterioration of campus grounds
Maintaining campus aesthetics
Implementing campus landscape and grounds improvements
Operating the recycling and waste programs
Producing and reviewing plans and specifications for proposed construction projects, as well as evaluating and inspecting finished product of construction contractors
Keeping the grounds free from physical hazards to campus users
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Landscape and Grounds Manager, the individual in this position will operate a wide variety of specialized waste, grounds maintenance and snow removal equipment.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
Waste/ Recycling collection, loading, hauling and disposal
Street, sidewalk and entryway snow removal and ice remediation
Street and sidewalk maintenance
Outdoor environmental safety
Equipment maintenance
Record keeping
Performing other related duties as required
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
High School diploma or GED
Valid Montana CDL – Minimum Class B Type II
Experience in general commercial grounds or waste operations
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Operation of front-loading compactor garbage truck
Commercial snow removal experience
Experience maintaining specialized waste/grounds equipment

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information
The work schedule varies seasonally and is highly weather dependent. The department utilizes split shifts to ensure winter snow coverage- typical available shifts are Monday- Friday 5:30 AM- 2:00PM or 8:30AM – 5:00PM. The person in this position may be called in for work at any time, particularly during the snow season. Weekend and holiday work may be required.
The final candidate selected for this position will be required to successfully pass a pre-employment drug test. Upon providing proof of a valid Commercial Driver’s License ( CDL ) the person in this position will be enrolled in the random drug and alcohol testing program.
The final candidate selected for this position will be required to successfully pass a background check.

Performing physically demanding work such as shoveling, ice chipping, post pounding etc.
Personally move objects weighing up to 100 pounds, working in dirty and dusty conditions, as well as inclement weather.
