Summary Performs simple and routine work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings and related utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, and other related trades Responsibilities Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately 6-10 months {i.e. October through March}, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year. This position is located within the Cuyahoga Valley National Park maintenance division. The primary purpose of the work is facility maintenance. This includes assisting subject matter experts on difficult jobs and performing independently on simpler jobs. Types of work include painting, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical and custodial. Area information: Housing may be available. Located in Northeastern, Ohio Cuyahoga Valley National Park is situated along 22 miles of the Cuyahoga River Valley in a suburban setting between the cities of Akron and Cleveland. The park is predominately natural forest and meadow with some areas of agriculture and excellent outdoor recreation opportunities. Winters are moderately cold with average temperatures in the 20 to 30 degree ranges. Heavy snowfall is not unusual. Summers are moderately warm, average temperatures in the high 70's and 80's with occasional warm spells in the 90's. Rural, suburban, and urban communities are all within a reasonable commuting distance. Excellent K-12 schools, numerous colleges, universities, hospitals, and cultural attractions are available in the area. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. A uniform allowance will be provided. Work Schedule: You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. I have used simple measures and hand tools to replace broken planks on picnic tables; broken windows using precut stock; minor adjustments or replaces hinges, latches, and catches. I have used a brush and roller on projects where appearances are not critical such as staining picnic tables and trash barrels. I have tightened or replaced plumbing fittings and fixtures which do not require custom fitting or solder joints; replaced faucet washers; unplugged drains using a plunger; replaced liquid petroleum gas bottles. I have performed routine maintenance on campground sites and trails using hand tools to re-grade and reset barriers to restore areas to original appearances. I have operated a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites. I have cleaned and serviced chemical toilets, restrooms, and other campground or visitor facilities. I have operated a forklift to load and unload supplies and light equipment not requiring special rigging. My work has been under close supervision and I referred unusual problems to the supervisor or a higher graded employee. Physical Demands: Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms and where surfaces to be coated, or the parts of systems worked on are hard to reach that require incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside where dirt, spray, and fumes are present. Also required to work in inclement weather and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.
