Location/Division Specific Information
We are a research, development, and production site in Bremen, currently with about 500 employees, whose “high-end” measurement and analysis instruments (mass spectrometers) are used in research and science worldwide. Our innovative products in the fields of Life Sciences MS and Inorganic MS, as well as Trace Elemental Analysis, are among the top tier products globally in their respective markets.

Join our extraordinary team as a PhD Student as R&D Scientist (m/f/d) at Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. in Bremen, Germany. You will play a vital role in groundbreaking research that enhances data processing and analysis in the scientific community. The work is part of project FULLMAP (Fully integrated, autonomous & chemistry agnostic Materials Acceleration Platform for sustainable batteries) which is funded by the European Union.
A day in the Life
Development of new analytical workflow for advanced characterization and testing of battery materials
Setting up the instrument prototype regarding hardware and software
Evaluation of the instrumental setup
Improving data collection and data treatment of the instrumental setup
Prepare and deliver comprehensive reports on project outcomes
Present results to partners, e.g. project consortium, team members
Publication of scientific results in international journals
Collaboration in a multinational and multidisciplinary team of scientists in Bremen and worldwide
Creation of the PhD thesis in collaboration with Münster Electrochemical Energy Technology (MEET) at the University of Münster on the topic of advanced characterization and testing of battery materials
Keys to Success
Completed master’s degree in a technical or scientific field, e.g. chemistry or physics
Knowledge of analytical instrumentation, preferably with knowledge in the areas of ICP-OES, ICP-MS or SIMS
Programming and data evaluation skills in a major programming language or scripting language, e.g. python, C #, R would be preferred
Eagerness to explore and embrace new AI tools and methodologies
Good communication style
Ability and experience to work independently in scientific projects
Willingness to travel to project meetings or/and collaboration partners
English language skills
