Essential Functions
Be responsible for the proper of identification of material being loaded or unloaded by part number, description, quantity and quality
Closely inspect products for finishing or coating defects while packaging to ensure Valmont Customer received quality products
Gather and professionally pack small parts for Valmont Customers orders per shipping documents provided
Maintain and operate packing and shipping equipment such as overhead cranes, forklifts, and straddle buggies in safe and secure manner
Understands and complies with department quality procedures
Use ship papers to identify product to be loaded as required
Bolster product going back to the yard or to the internal customer as specified by the general guidelines posted
Communicate to the next shipper B to ensure proper loading of each consolidation
Maintains housekeeping in the area
Responds in a positive fashion to the direction of a shift supervisor or lead, participating in departmental/team functions
Wear required personal protective equipment and always follow facility and OSHA safety regulations
Maintain a safe and productive working environment
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, read, write, and count
Ability to read & write in English
Ability to work with wood and small hand tools such as tape measures, saws and drills
Ability to stand, bend, push, pull, climb, lift and move about the warehouse
Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds safely throughout the shift
Ability to work over ten hours a week in overtime when required for business needs
Ability to operate a forklift
Become proficient in operating a straddle truck and shag truck
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Work, Excel, Outlook)
Ability to accurately take measurements using close tolerance measuring instruments
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
One year of previous experience working in a warehouse and/or manufacturing environment
One year of forklift experience
Ability to identify below standard products and communicate with management
Communicate and interact positively with various levels of team members
Attention to detail and follow work instructions
SKILL
Job Training Skill Development
Uses a hand-held barcode scanner
Uses an imperial tape measure
Uses some hand tools relevant to the shipping department
Operates the banding equipment
Works as a blocker (includes international pit)
Helps pack crates
Decision Making
Employee makes routine decisions with much of this job covered by standard practices. Uses of good common sense and quality control procedures are essential aspects of completing this job in a successful manner. The employee should be able to recognize major errors in shipping and part order papers and bring them to the attention of their crew leader or supervisor. Be able to meet requirements of position with a minimal amount of supervision.
EFFORT
Physical effort is moderate to heavy. A high degree of physical effort is used due to continuous heavy lifting. Employee is lifting 35 to 50 lbs. approximately 80-90% of the time. Standing, bending, or walking is required 85% of the time. Loading ESS products can cause the employee to climb and lift in unusual positions. Securing platforms, containers and flatbeds means that the employee must be able to climb up to 8’ off the ground. Pushing and pulling to place carts in close quarters takes extra physical effort. Although some items weigh more, a maximum lift of 50 lbs. is all that is required.
