Job Summary

The Department Coordinator II, in the McKeen Center for the Common Good is an essential member of the Center’s team. The coordinator provides administrative support for the five professional staff of the McKeen Center, and is responsible for providing comprehensive support and coordination for the department. This position involves handling a wide range of administrative tasks, managing departmental projects, and serving as a liaison between department members and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate possesses strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Specific responsibilities include day-to-day management of the office; reception in a high-traffic, student-centered space; management of departmental budget and finances; event coordination; maintaining and developing departmental website, social media, and database; development of office publications; and general public relations. The coordinator also directly oversees payroll approval of 75 student employees; the Sponsor-a-Family holiday giving program; and plans Bowdoin and the Common Good, an end-of-year symposium.

Education/Skills Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or bachelor’s degree preferred. Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and external contacts. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and demands in a fast-paced environment.​

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an administrative support role or similar position. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other office software applications.

Standard Work Days and Hours

This position is scheduled for 30 hours/week, year-round. Typical work hours are between 8:30am-5:00pm Monday thru Friday.

  • The hourly range for this position is expected to be: $25.80- – 27.80/per hour.
