Journey's End Refugee Services Community Outreach Manager (Jamestown) in Buffalo, New York
Job Description: The Community Outreach Manager is a member of the Community Outreach team, reporting to the Director of Outreach and Volunteers. This position will operate out of the Jamestown office. Primary responsibilities include building community relationships; promoting cultural competency and awareness of refugee populations; and to recruit, manage, and support volunteers and donors in Jamestown area. The Community Outreach Manager will adhere to agency policies and strategies that ensure sustainability and organizational growth. The Community Outreach Coordinator will work to promote the agency’s mission and values to all stakeholders. The Community Outreach Manager must exemplify Journey’s End’s core values in their work. These values include intercultural responsiveness, integrity, person-centered, empowerment, and exemplary service. Primary Responsibilities: Develop new community partnerships, while helping to strengthen existing ones Recruit, onboard, and train volunteers. Lead volunteer orientation monthly. Create and process volunteer files, match volunteers with appropriate assignments based on availability, needs, and fit Assist in cultivating volunteer leadership and appreciation through trainings and special events Compose and distribute volunteer newsletter for Jamestown area Participate in volunteer and donor thanks and stewardship Regularly engage and communicate with volunteers to assess satisfaction of match Promote volunteer and internship programs throughout the agency by attending/hosting inter-departmental staff meetings, and help assess departmental needs Coordinates with local colleges to recruit interns; create and post internship openingsAssist in planning, promoting, and attending all Community Outreach department events Coordinate JERS advocacy activities in Jamestown area: speaking engagements, webinars, maintain and update advocacy tool kit, distribute advocacy alerts and other advocacy efforts as needed Table and/or conduct off-site speaking presentations Give office tours to local groups, volunteers and other parties Track all community outreach activities, including volunteer hours monthly, and events and report as required Update donor management system with monetary and in-kind gifts on a weekly basis and other gifts as needed Coordinate with programs in-kind donations and other outreach needs Supervise Home Agains (donor housing set-ups at least twice monthly). Requires weekend hours. Other duties as assigned Qualifications: A strong work ethic is required: must be well-organized and detail-oriented; prioritize and follow through on tasks accurately with minimal supervision; and be very self-motivated in a fast-paced work environment A demonstrated background in community outreach and non-profit work strongly desired A thorough understanding of the mission of Journey’s End, and a commitment to promoting the mission to different groups in the community Database experience and other computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite Strong written and public speaking skills with ability to represent the agency professionally Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends (work hours can be flexed) Must have a valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle Must be able to lift 25lbs
