KBR Electrical Designer in Buffalo, New York

Title:

Electrical Designer

KBR is looking for an Electrical Designer responsible for the independent development of electrical schematics, junction box layouts, PLC/HMI control panels, pinouts, and wiring diagrams as well as conduit/cable tray systems for used on plant equipment. Has a firm understanding of governing electrical codes and engineering principles. You're able to apply these to plant design & drafting, improvements projects, equipment upgrades, and general problem-solving situations. Functions will generally be conducted under the guidance of experienced engineering staff but do require independent problem solving and decision making at times.

This role is based at a client site in Buffalo, NY. This role works on our Engineering team and reports to our site team leader. The role is required to be on site full time with occasional work from home opportunities.

Functional job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Perform redlining of existing drawings, documentation, and project file coordination.

  • Collaborate with in-house staff and external design professionals, including engineers, to coordinate design work.

  • Independently handle projects of moderate size and complexity while supporting senior engineers on larger or more complex projects.

  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of deliverables within the assigned area of responsibility.

  • Assist project managers with correspondence, estimates, schedules, material lists, design concepts, drawings, calculations, and other project documentation in compliance with plant, corporate, and industry standards.

  • Apply company and industry standards to oversee the preparation of calculations, project drawings, and specifications.

  • Coordinate with internal and external partners including cross-discipline teams, construction teams, vendors, fabricators, and owners to address electrical-related issues or concerns.

  • Read and interpret plant provided electrical specifications.

  • Create electrical elementary drawings – described in job summary above.

  • Size and specify wire, wire types, conduit, cable tray, glands, etc.

  • Provide production staff required support during fabrication of design and during field installation.

  • Assist project managers with technical concerns as required.

  • Ability to multitask between projects simultaneously – appropriate clerical organization is critical.

    Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

  • Minimum: AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical (preferred) - Microsoft Office Excel & Word

  • Minimum: 2yr or 4yr Degree in Electrical Design or Engineering

  • Experience programming basic PLCs/HMIs/Smart Devices – Micrologix/Micro850/Etc. preferred

  • 2-4 years' experience as an Electrical Designer or Engineer preferred

Compensation:

  • $94,400 - $110,000
